THE YASKEE LOCOMOTIVES
IN
EOYI'T.—
On* tlie railroad between 'Alexandria (in Egypt) and Suez, recently finished, there arc four locomotives—two of them are of English manufacture, and the other two were built at the Taunton Works, in this Statc-gjlti Heeras that the Pasha's ears arc open to flattery, and the English engineers, through their Consul, use every moans to get rid of the American engineers. They were told by the railroad company that the otigine'ff not going to bo used, and that their services would not be needed. The excuse for hauling them off was that they were not strong enough to haul the heavy trains. One of the American engine orpj'gotting nn opportunity to speak with the l'ashii, told him that he could haul as many loaded cars as could reach from one end of the road to the other. Accordingh* sovoaty-five loaded cars (which was afl they could muster) wero put in a train, the J'ashii'.-r/nvn ear attached, and the whole takeirtbrpug'i to Suez, a distance of 200 miles in hour.-!, making stoppages for fuel and water. The i'a -lia exclaimed, in ligyptian—"(!od is great, but. a Yankee is very near perfec'iiui." On his return ho discharged the Jinglish onsrine drivers, find now uses the Taunton engines altogother.—
