From the London Herald, 6e't. 18,lS53. THE AMERICANIZATION of CANADA :AMD THE BRITISH PROVINCES.':.
The modern project of uniting all the British North American territories under a single federal government., so as to ere ate a counterpoise to the growing ascendancy of the United States, is exciting immense interest atnong Canadian politicians. Federalism, combining the principle of lor cal independence with that of central authority, seems admirably adapted to vast continents destined to receive immense populations. It prevents the existence of international jealousies, which cxpericnce shows have always grown up where separate kingdoms have been established in contiguity to eaeh other, leading to wars which have retarded the civilization of Europe and loaded it with debts. Under federalism all the parts obey the whole, and the whole is bound to protect all the parts. Each State his its own local legislature within its own boundary, and is a member of the Congress which binds the whole confederation. When an outlaying territory advances in population, it is not subdued as a conquest, but admitted withiu the pale of the federation. Thus a political fraternity is recognizcd, which prevents all unworthy motives to cupidity or ambition. This is one of the causes of the rapid growth of the United States. Had the constitution of the original thirteen States been exclusive/"new populations would never have massed themselves round their borders, fearing to be enslaved or annexed when they became wealthy but no such fears were entertained, industry being certain of its reward, and the small capitalist and laborer assured that the land which they had reclaimed would in due time be erected into an independent

THE SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCEJof Rev. JOHN PIERREPOINT—HIS COllKESPO.VDE5CE WITII SPIRITS.
The Spiritual Telegraph of this week a "Ilev. JohnPierrepbnt has been re-en-gaged for three Sundays, to speak for the Spiritualists at Dodworth's Academy.— Last Sunday he related some of his personal experience, which was very interesting.: :One case was briefly as follows: On the 27th of August, 1857, Mr. Pierrepont addressed a letter to Dr. Channing, in the spirit world, stating that he had, through several mediums, been requested by what purported to be his spirit, to make himself acquainted with the facts and philosophy of spiritualism, and that, if it was true, he wished l)r. Channing to so inform him, and give him such other information as he might perceive that he needed.
The letter was put in an envelope, pasted, and scaled with seal, and sent to J. Mansfield for answer, without his opening it. No person knew that he had written such a letter, and he waited some two weeks for a reply, and received none. His granddaughter, who was a medium, called on him and Mr. iPicrrepoht asked if the spirit of Dr. Channing was present The answer was written: 'Yes.' Mr. Pierrepont asked him: 'Are you you aware that 1- have written you a letter Answer: 'Yes and I have been trying to get the control of Mr. Mansfield, so as to reply to it through him.'
A few days after, he received a lengthy and specific answer i'tom Mr. Mansfield, which he read, and which contained several extracts from his tetter, aud the replies were such as to show conclusively that the writer knew not only the contunis of the letter, bat several other private matters not mentioned in the letter. Mr. Pierrepont exhibited his letter sunt to Dr. Channing, caro of Mr. Manslield, with the seal and envelope unbroken, and itseeiucd to be a clear case.
Mr. Pierrepont was ill in New York, and Dr. Parker attended him several days without giving relief. Mr. P., wrote a letter to his old physician, Dr.
