fcrevy oMlaa thtf li lta*#1 o&49||liw MiapiiiMffMte each other, on opposite side* of we «ten.' In other plinta the letrea ere scattered over the item but in these cases, slao, we find then arranged i& the most regular manner.

i, this, one-third of the way round the stem the next another third, and the next another third, so as to stand exactly over the filii fhe seriei is therefore arranged in a spind, 'which may be designated by die fraction 1-8. Taking another plant, we shall find the next leaf above any given

OM/Mthsof^lie distance around the stem. The nenwilr be fotir fifths—the next six fifths] land so on—each leaf moving two fifths of the circumference, further around the stem. Here is a spiral, therefore, which nw'be expressed by.tfys fraction two fifths. (lit precisely the iie W«y/we discoVer'in1other plants, spirals which may be expressed by the fractions 3-8, 5-13, 8-21, etc. If in the case of opposite leaves, fifSt-racntioncd, wc consider each leaf as separated from the preceding by one-half the interval around the stem we shall obtain the series of fractions 1-2, 1-3, 2-5, 3-8, 5-13, 8 21, etc. It must be kept in min^l that-these fractions arc ascertained by actual observation. But noticc the relation which exists between them. Each numerator is equal to the sum of the two preceding numerators, and each dcnomii.ator fo: the Bum of the two preceding denominators. Knowing this law, we may continue the scries to any extent—and it has been so continued, and fractions obtaincd, to which plants have subsequently been found to correspond. Is all this the result of chance? It it not rather mathematics? law? intelligence?

But the most wonderful coincidcncc is yet to be noticed. Neptune the rcniote«t planet, revolves around the sun in 60,00 days Uranus, the next, in 30,000 days, which is one-half the prcccding number Saturn, the next, in 10,000 days, which is one-third of the period of Uranus Jupiter revolves in 4,060 days, which is two fifths of the period of Saturn. And so we go on through the system, and find a law regulating the revolutions of the planets, which is identical with that which determines the arrangement of leaves upon the humble stein of a plant. This wandcrful law is so cxact and uniform in its application, that before the discovery of the planet Neptune, the botanist in his garden could have prcdieted its cxistcncc and place in the heavens, with greater precision than the French astronomer in his observatory. Moreover, an examination of this series of fractions render it impossible that any planet should exist exterior to Neptune, though more may exist within the orbit of Mercury.— Astronomers will therefore please take no tice, aiid'not be found planet hunting i»!to"i the deserts of space beyond the orbit of Neptune.—[Prof. A. Wiuchcll.

the opulent Parisian banker, M. Ouvrard, four millions of dollar? for supplies to the royal squadron, payment of which was to be made out of the treasury of Mexico.— Ouvrard sent his brother to Mexico to rereive the money, who, on his arrival at the capital, was introduced by the Treasurer into the office of his department, where there were accumulated seventy-one millions of dollars in specie at the disposal of Spain, and as a specimen of old Castilian integrity and honor, four millions were al^ready set apart, and labeled as the property of Ouvrard. AGUE.

Such constitutional disorder trill of course undermine the health if it is not removed. We .have labored to find, and have found, an antidote,

Ayer's Ague Cure,

which neutralizes this malarious poison in the blood, and stimulates the liver to expel it flrotn the body. As it should, so it does cure this afflicting disorder with perfect certainty. And it does more, or rather does what is of more service to those subject to this infection. If taken in season it expels it from the system as it is absorbed, and thus keeps those who use it free from its attacks keeps the system in health although exposed to the disease. Consequently it not only cures, but protects from, the great variety of affections which are induced bv this malignant influence, such as Remittent Fever, Chill Fever, Dumb, or Masked Ague, Teriodical Headache, or Bilious Headache, Bilious Fevers, Neuralgia, Rheumatism, Gout, Blindness, Toothache, Earache, Catarrh, Asthma, Palpitations, Painful Affcctions of the Spleen, Hysterics, Colic, Paralysis, and Painful Affections of the Stomach anil Bowels, all of which, when arising fromifchis cause, will be found to assume more or less the intermittent type. This AGUE CUBE removes the causc of these derangements, and cures the disease.

This it accomplishes by' stimulating the excretories to expel the virus from the system and these organs by degrees become habited to do this their office of their own accord. Hence arises what we term

aeclimtahtiion.

Time may accomplish the

same end, but often life is not long enough, or is sacrificed in the attem]rt, while tfilsAGUECUES" does it at once, and with safety. We have great reason to believe this is a surer as well as safer remedy for the whole class of diseases which are causea by the miasmatic infection, than any other which has been discovered and it has still another important advantage to the public, which is, that it is cheap as well as good. ,j.j

Fever and Ague,

from which mankind suffer over a large part of the globe, is the consequence of a diseased^ action in t£ie system, induced by the poisonous miasm of vegetable decay. This exhalation is evolved bv the Mtipl of solar heat on wet soil, and rises with the watery vapor from it. While the sun is below the horiaon •h'ia vapor lingers near the earth's surface, and the virus is taken with it through the hings into the blood. There it acts as an irritating poison on the internal viscera and excreting organs of the body. The liver becomes torpid ana fails to aecrete not only this virus, but also the bile from the blood. Both the virus and the bile accumulate in the circulation, and produce violent constitutional disorder. The spleen, the kidneys, and the stomach sympathize with the liver, and become disordered also. Finally, the instinct of our oreanism, as if in an attempt to expel the noxious infusion, concentrates the whole blood of the body in the internal' excretories to force them to cast it out. The blood leaves the surface, and rushes to the central organs with congestive violence. This is the
