DIED—On Saturday the 6th inft-, at Lafayette, Ind., after a short bat very seirere illnefs, JOHX L. HERKDOS. ..
The deceased resided, at the time of his
death, at Lafayette, although die greater part of his life was spent at his father's residence in this place. Mr. Herndon was born on the 11th of September, 1827, in Kentucky. He had many of the high per-
sonal qualities, which mark the. true Kentacky gentleman. He was brave, magna imoas, honest, gentle and kind. He has led a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his departure yet they mourn not as .those who are without hope. He has only exchanged the trials and sorrows of this life, for a life which is without trial and without sorrow. L. .-
