Crawfordsville Review, Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, 27 June 1857 — Page 3
MT^ftrpcr'a, Tfcckiy thus prononnccs jadgwiiBt apdn the NeVr York Tribnne:
Tbkt 'is the office of the Roatrnm, the great philarithropical journal of Amcrica, which, like the Baron Spolasco, or any other gentleman of liis kidney, earns a living by cing eccentric. Every thing is deterjainedly turned topsy-turvy by the employees of that paper. They want to make men of women, women of men. Their trowsers arc always too short, and their hair too long. They employ Hussions to write their Knglish, and musicians to instruct the public on politics. They keep a parson who reviews tbeir profane litcratare, and a layman who writes sermons on popped corn. They attack everybody, and bellow like the Bulls of Bashan if they are attacked in turn. They profess to be intensely Democratic, and their building is a sort of caravanscra for foreign noblemen who bivouac nmong the desks and exchanges. They have their fine eyes, like Mrs. Jcllyby, alwaya fixed on Africa, and do not see the civic sores that fester at their very feet. In short, their eccentricities and "isms" arc as wide as the brims of their hats, and, like them, shut them off from the light of heaven.
