If£G RO EQUALITY.
This 13 to be the issue in the next political campaign. The Black Republican party favor tlie fall
citizenship
of the negro—
the Democracy oppose it.
What privileges does citizenship involve ?—Nothing less than entire political and social equality. It
eivc3
Concede to the negro citizenship and we give to him every pnvilage—grant him the political and social equality that the white citizens of Indiana now enjoy. Arc the citizcns of Indiana prepared to yield this mucli to the negro racc, and debase their ovrti? The Supreme Conrt, in the Dred Scott case, have dccidcd that the negro is licit upon an equality, politically or socially, with the white race. The Black Republicans contend that he is. .This is the issue between the Black Republicans and the Democracy. The Democracy of Indiana believe that the interests of the white racc arc of infinitely more consideration than the negro, and that the progress, prosperity and expansion of the white racc arc not to be interrupted or negatived by a sickly sentimentality, whiclt claims the political and social equality of the ne"ro with the white man, or of depressing tuc white man and elevating the negro to a common level.
Black Republicanism regards only the interest of the negro and his elevation to the rights and privelcgcs of the citizenship of the-white man, while Democracy regards the interest, the advancement and prosperity of the white racc, as of the first consideration.
This is the issue now before the country upon the negro question and it repuircs but little sagacity to foresee the result. The negro can never be made the political or social equal of the white man, with all the aid that Black llepudlicauisni can give liim.—State Sentinel.
A QUEEll ELOPEMENT-A YOUNG GENT SOLI) The Baltimore Republican tells a good story of an elopement which recently occurred in that city. It seems that a young fashionable gent, bccouiing smitten with the charms of a young lady whom ho had seen at a May ball, procured an introduction, and solicited the honor of another interview. The young lady, in reply informed him she was the daughter of a wealthy merchant residing on Broadway, Fell's Point: but, in consequcncc of her father being violently opposed to the visit of any admirer of hers, it would be impossible for him to make the evening visit for which ho so ardently louged. Finally, after pressing entreaties, she gave her gracious consent for him to call at her residence on the following Sunday evening, between the hours of eight, and nine o'clock, when her father and mother, she alleged, would be absent on their regular visit to church. On the appointed evening the lovc-strickcn'swain was, of course, punctual in attendance, and was received in the kindest and most affectionate manner by his lady love.
The upshot of the matter was, that an elopement occurred and the parties were married. After marriage the bridegroom proposed that they should return home and procure the father's pardon.
Judge then his dismay when, with a trembling voice, she informed him that although she possessed the name of the gentleman in question she was not related to him in the slightest degree, and was cmployed in his dwelling in the capacity of a soamptrcss. Thus all his visions of a scoured fortune were scattered to the winds and tho scone of recrimination which ensued was terribly out of place for a newly married couplo.
Looking Guilty.—Nothing
can be more
absurd than the idea that "looking guilty" proves guilt. An honest, man chargcd with crimo is much more likely to blush at the accusation than the real oflcndcr, who is generally prepared for the event, and has his frvee "ready made" for the occasion.— Tho very thought of being suspected of any thing criminal will bring the blood to an innocent man's cheeks, in nine eases out of ten. The most "guilty looking" person we cvor saw was a man arrested for stealing a librae—which turned out to be his own jpropcrty.

SINGER'S SEWING MACHINES.
GREAT
SUCCESS is always the most conclusive proof cf great merit." Judged by this test there is no labor-saving machine before the public comparable to Singer's Sewing Machines. After establishing the highest reputation in the United States they were exhibited at the late "Exposition Univcrscllo" in France, where they carriea off the highest, .premium and a great manufactory to make them has been builtin Paris.
In every Branch of Industry
In which sewing is to be done, these machines can be used with immense profit. As the speed of the Railway train is to traveling on foot, so is sewing with Singer's Machines compared with hand-sew-ing. No tailor, shoemaker, dressmaker, carriage trimmer, saddler, hatter, &c., «fcc., should be without one. The fair profit of using one of these machines, regularly employed, is
One Thousand Dollars a year. In all private families where there is much sewing to be done these machines, are an invaluable assistance. Planters and hotel keepers find them particularly convenient and profitable. These machines arc simple in their construction and very strong and durable, being the only kind of Sewing Machine ever made, by ivliieh every sort of work, coarse or fine, could be perfectly executed. Thousands of inferior and worthless Sewing Machines have been made and sold under various names, but Singer's Machines alone have been found everywhere to satisfy the wants of the public.
Piain printed instructions for using, arc sent with each machine, from which any one can rcadtlv acquire tho-art of managing them. The inaefii nc-s are packed securely to go to any part of the world. To all persons desiring more particular information wc will, on application by letter at either of onr ofiices forward a copy of I. M. Singer & Co's
