tiimlf that, "if the field of fame be lost, 'twill not be by an Irishman." Hear him: STUAHGEI—The'daughter of J. G. looker, one of the most wealthy and respectable citiiens of New York, has married her fathers Coachman, an Irishman named Dcan!«—Ex. "Vel vot of it?" Didn't Gen. Jackson's moUieV marry "an Irishman." Didn't the mother of President Buchanan marry "an Irishman." Isn't Charles O'Connor, the

•ride of NcW York Bar "an Irishman wot Irish blood in liberal quantities, course the veins of the best living talent of England or Articrica 1 Do toot the records of the glorious dead prove to ns that Ire* land, persecuted and down-trodden as she has been, has furnished a large share of the brightest taames known to Historic fame Who Were Wellington, Burke, Kmmet, Phillips, Curran, O'Connell, Wolf, Tone, Matthew and Moore, but Irishmen.' "Strange!". Ay, it is "strange," but not in the sense you view it. Miss Bokcr has

had the good sense (that is strange in upper teftdom) to despise the weazen-faced shan ghai debauches who fluttered obout her for her wealth, and to place herself under the protection of a whole-souled, warm-hearted vigerotts son of Labor* Her children, (divil a fear but she'll be blessed in this partifcular)will not be poor little scrawney tenderlings made up of blue looking flesh and great sickly eyes, like the puny progeny of fashionables?—they will be the image of health, full of activity, "with cheeks like thumping red potatoes," grow up to be useful men, an honor to their parents who may live to see them filling the highest stations known bo our laws, as Buchanan, another »on of an Irishman, is now doing!

Bad cess to the spalpeen who speaks ill ofould Ireland.

MINNESOTA PREPARING TO DE A STATE. We find in the St. Paul papers the following proclamation from Governor Gorman:

An extraordinary cmcrgcncy having aris en in the affairs of the Territory of Minnesota, requiring an extra session of the Legislature for purpose of providing by law for holding Courts, and for enacting such laws ns may be deemed ncccssary to enable the people to form a State Constitution, preparatory to being admitted into the Union ns a State also, for the purpose of disposing of the grant of lands made by the Congress of the United States at its last session, to aid the Territory of Minnesota in constructing certain designated railroads therein, the members of the Council and House of Representatives arc therefore required to meet at St. Paul ou Monday, the 27th of April, 1857. and take into consideration the subjects above specified.

MAPLE S re A AND MOI.ASSKS. The very high price of sugar and molasses renders the production of these articles from the maple a matter of no trifling moment.— According to the census of 1850, the quantity of maple sugar produced in that year was about thirty-four millions of pounds.— This, at fourteen cents a pound—the lowest price at which we have heard of its being Hold in this quarter, by tiic producers— would amount, to nine millions and eight hundred thousand dollars. The quantity of maple molasses produced this year will not probably, be less than a million of gallons, worth to the producer, for sale or use, not less than a dollar a gallon. Thus, it appears that the maple sugar and molasses produced the present year will amount probably to not less than eleven millions of dollars—all manufactured at a very small expense of time, and from material that would not have been usefully employed in any other way.

CS?" The N. Y. Express tells of a financial roup (V cftif which took plaec last week in that city. The .Secretary of an Insurance Company surmised that after the election, he should be removed. Upon the morning of the election he prepared a ticket composed of his own friends, euough of whom he hoped would bo returned to save his place. The day of the election being stormy, and not calculated to alarm the stockholders of aFire Company, the vote was small, and upon counting the vote it was ascertained that the old board were all turned out, and the Secretary's friends elected. This practical joke, at the expense of the Directors, is much laughod at.

A (JAY IJOTIIATIIO.

A good storj- is told of a fellow in North Carolina. Having been, put in jail for marrying thirteen wives, he made his escape, and seen throe or four days afterwards by a gentleman, who recognized him. The gentleman, anxious to secure the reward for his apprehension, invited him to dinner, and then slily slipped out in pursuit of a constable but great was his horror on his return to find that the culprithad absconded with his own wife

86?" It is conceded on all hands that ladies are fair, and that chickens arc fowl —that the money market and men that drink too much are tight—that morals arc loose, and morning gowns too. Not a word about ladies lacing.
