RATHER UITEXPECTED CONCESSION. The Governor of Jamaica concedes that the slaves of the United States are far ruperior in civilization and character to the free negTO population of Jamaica, althongh that population has enjoyed freedom for a whole generation, under the wise and humane .jorotection of the British-Qevernmentt. He recommends, th^t'the British Gorernraent transport from Canada to Jamaica the fugitive slaves, who ttave run away from our

Southern StAfeea^ He says: "Th$-^people who may, if matters be prope^l• represented to them, be induced to coGbe hither from America, are precisely ---'•foe sort of industrial population we require besides, they are admirably adapted to the climate of this island. Bringing with them an amount of civilization far higher than that of the generality of the laboring population of this island, and acquainted as they are to a much greater extent with agriculture and mechanical arts—two of the greatest desiderata in Jamaica—the black and colored people of America are not only admirably calculated to develop tho innumerable resources of the island to a far greater extent than the natives are at present capable of, "but they will, to a certainty, if brought here, be the means of improving our native peasantry, by continually presenting, to a people so imitative, examples worthy of *them to follow."

This is decidedly a new idea to come from such a quarter. The negroes of the Southern States of America, just escaped from slavery by running away to Canada, are conceded to be capable of presenting to the free negro citizens of Jamaica, examples of civilization, industry, and mechanical skill worthy of them to follow.

XTcrushing

is well known that there is great economy in or grinding the kerneis of all grain before feeding it to stock, and there is much ntutriment in the cob when properly broken or ground. And the only reason that mills arranged to produce the:-e dasircd results have not more generally introduced among planters and fanners, has been their complex arrangement and high cost.

In the Kentucky Corn and Cob Mill, of which the above is an accurate engraving, we claim to have produced a machine at or.ee ellicient. substantial and cheap, A-hile its arrangement is zq simple that the most ordinary hand can adjust and operate it. This machine, unlike any other, ia regalatcd by means of a single set-screw, which is easily moved by hand, and is applied directly under the centre of the mill.

Any one using these Mills will find a clear saving of one quarter of their corn over the old plan of feeding,
