OLD LINE W IGS.

In the recent Convention at Frankfort, rre were pleased to see a large number of ourold Whig co-laborers—the very fluwer of the old Clay pa. ty—men who scorned an alliance with back alley conclaves and garret caucuses. Among the hosts of these patriotic men were the gallant Col. Preston, Judge Lusk, W. D. Reed, Lucion Anderson, Ben. Spalding, the talented young Kisk, of Covington, and various others.

These Old Liners were received into the democratic ranks, not as probationers or allies, but as brothers and equals. They were given to understand their claims and merits should have full consideration, and that in the distribution of offices andhonnors, there should bee no old party tests, and no going back of the (Hections of 1855. All who came to the rescue of the Deuociatic party, and all who in the hours of darkness and gloom, threw themselves into the glorious cause of the people and the constitution, shoud have equal claims upon the gratitude of the Democracy. "Preston, the acknowledged leader and representative of the old line whig regi*monl, was offered any position he might desire. He declined the post of State Eelector, but has promised to canvass the State wherever his services may be needed or desired. He and five other old line whigs have been appointed delegates to the National convention.

These gratifying facts we wish borne in mind by the old liners of this region of the State.— Barihtown Ay.) Oaz.

S3T The Lake Superior Miner gives the following account of a vast mass of copper recently discovered in the Minnesota mine:

On Saturday last we went underground to look at the great mass in the ten fathom level at the Minnesota mine, to which we have before alluded. They are now at work on the north east corner of the copper, which they succeeded in throwing out by a heavy sand blast. Some forty men »ire constantly at work by night and day at cutting it up and getting away the pieces. Jt is fastened very firmly to the foot wall by strings and little cross veins of copper, and this makes it quite difficult to detach from the rock, but otherwise its occurrence is very favorable fur getting out economically. It is found to be very much seamed, so that well placed .sand blasts of ten or twelve kegs of powder will tear of}' and throw up lumps of 40 to GO tons weight.

From 2U to 20 men are constantly at work cutting it up, and the ring and'hammer and steel in the level reminds the visitor of a nail factory. They cut it into pieces of about 5,000 pounds weight each, as near as they can estimate—that size being die best for safety of machinery and convenience of handling.

We measured some of the cuts. One of thern was 2.0 inches thick of clean bright copper—though they generally can manageto find place where it does not require more than 18 inches of cutting.

How much higher or lower this great mass extends, time only will disclose, but it now seems probable that it is the largest continuous piece of native copper ever vol discovered.

ponden! of the New Yuik Herald, writes: Tlie ladies of Utah have adopted now rostnine, which seems to be gradually increased in favor. It consists of a loose fitting dre resembling a man's coa?, being luutoned in front and reaching below the knees, a pair of pantalets adorning the anLies, and a leghorn hat, set javnitingly upon die head, being in faet a modification of the Jfioomcr costume. The ladies are thus reSieved of a superabundant load ofpetticoats nnd their husbands are freed from paying •for more than two thirds of the usual quan°lity of dry goods—a no small item r.f expenses in this country. There is no doubt but there is as much use of reform in the urticles of man's dress as in that of wouian's— for instance, what can be more absurd, cumbersome and useless, than the monkey-like appendage, a coat tail. I deoidcdly prefer the common Utah costume of a flannel or cloth overshirt, as more becoming than a "long-tailed blue."

KENTUCKY

Com & Coo mm Cumberland, feegg & Go,

In the Kentucky Corn and Cob Mill, of which the above is an accurate engraving, we claim to have produced a machine at once e!licier t, substantial and cheap, while it arrangement is so imj-'ie that the most ordinary hand can adjust and op crate it. This machine, unlike any other, is r. gu lated by means of a single set-screw, which is easily moved by hand, nnd is applied directly under the centre of the mill.

Any one using those Mills will find a clear saving of one quarter of their corn over the old plan of fee-ling, .7
