Brigham, in addition to the many private residences he now owns, is putting up a splendid edifice next to the Governor's official residence. This building, when completed, will be the finest ono in the whole of Utah Territory.

It is said that Brigham is down on the Union, and that he publicly stated to thoff conference that the Mormons, thank God, were strong enough to defy the. power of (he United Slates, and that the United States might go to h—1

One of the settlements on the extrcmo frontiers had been attacked by the Indians, and tluee of the Saints were killed. Tho Mormons at the settlement lost the greater portion of their cattle, and abandoned tho post for the preient. The Indians who had#? pretended to be friendly had, with a single exception, proved treacherous.

The crops in the southern portion of tho Territory have proved almost a total failure. Northwardly of Salt Lake, the crop harvested is about an average. ^^KxTRAOnDI.VARY OCCURRENCE. At tho

time of the explosion of Sebastopol, a most

extraordinary occurrence took place. A correspondent, givivg an account of the ter

"But, among all the distressing objects

around, none, perhaps, was more melancholy, calculated to excite feelings of pity, than an artilleryman who had been, either by the concussion or by sudden alarm, rendered idiotic. He attracted between two of his comrades, uttering silly exclamations, and quite lost to consciousness of all that was passing round him. He seemed to be possessed by a feeling that he was in Eng"and, fur all his rambling remarks referred to home while a smile on his face, vacant and unmeaning as was its expression, seemed to show that he had at least as much ti factio:i as he was any longer capablu of enjoying."

A CONVENIENT GI N.—Dr. Colton the asociate of Dr. Boyton, showed us an "Air Gun" yesterday, which to us was a great curiosity. It had the appearance of au ordinary cane, though rather large. The upper portion has an air-chamber, and when charged with air by a little force pump will drive fif'eon separate shots before re-load-ing The lower half of the cane forms the barrel, easily loaded with ball like an ordinary rifle.
