If any one should sec the hats, left arms^ and legs of Messrs. W. Galey, 0. S. McNeil, James Wilson, Bughum Fry, and John Beard bound in crape, he need not ask if any of their relations are dead, but may feel assured that they are only mourning for "SAM" of dark lantern memory. NEAL DOW'S MOB.

The riot at Portland Maine, produced by the illegal conduct of Neal Dow, in pur-, chasing liquor in violation of his own law, resulting as it did in the murder of one citizen and the wounding of several others, by order of the great champion of the prohibitory liquor law, is producing, as it ought to produce, the most intense excitement throughout the country. If it serves to open the eyes of fmatics to the consequences of the passage of tyrannical and oppressive laws such as that about to be put in force in this State, the shedding of blood may not be without its good effects.
