In its working there is but Jittle strength required and while it cleans es the largest articles, such as tablecloths and sheets, there is no wearing and tearing them, as is the case' arid defect withal 'most every article of the kind we have ev er seen. MAIL FAILURES.
We call the'attehtion of the Post Master General to-the.reckless and culpable manner in- which the U. S. mail is carried on thij New Afbany fe Salem Railroad. The road has proved itself utterly incompetent to perforin its contract. The route-agents with but one exception, have proved themselves.utterly unfit for the station they occupy. Oar Chicago exchanges are, about ^one-half the time, carried by to New Albaay, where, after laying two or three days, they are finally left at this office. Our citizens have been complaining for some time at the culpable neglect of the Directors of the road and the incompetency of the rotate-agents. We sincerely hope the Post Master General, Mr. Campbell, will enquire into this matter by so doing, he will receive the thanks of thousands of our eitixens.
It is rumored on our streets this
inoraing that a duel is strongly talked off between Brown of the Locomotive and Judge Peter Smith. The effect of this moor has materially advanced the priee of coffins, and effected a corresponding decrease in wool.
