The present critical state of European affairs will render these publications unsually interesting during the forthcoming year. They will occupy middle ground between the hastily written newe items, crude speculations, and iiyinc rumors of tho daily Journal, and tho ponderous Tome of the future" historian, written after the living interest and excitement of the great political events of the time shall have passed away. It is to these Periodicals that readers must look for the only really intelligible and reliable history of current events, and aa such, in addition to their well-established literary, scientific, and theological character, we urpe them upon the consideration of the reading public.

Ks A MAGNIFICENT FAUM AND FARMER.—A Vermont paper says: "Among the conspicuous men in the Vermont Legislature, is Mr. G. 13. Brigham, of Fairfield. Among ssshis

barnyard items are two hundred and twenty cows, twenty horses, and five yoke of oxen. In his dairy he makes butter only. The average yield of butter from the milk of each cow is one hundred and fifty •pounds. Two huge 'dasher' churns are -'set in motion by two 'horse powers,' and .the butter is worked by the old fashioned paddle. His stock of cattle consumes about five hundred tons of hay annually. 20,000 lbs. of pork, TOO bushels of wheat, from 400 to f00 bushels of corn, 1000 bushels of oats, and from 1 to 2000 bushels of potatoes, are among his yearly products.— "The man of I'z," in his best estate, could not do better than this. Mr. Brigham, himself, is got up with a breadth of beam, and in a style of magnificence proportionate to the c*xtent uf his nossessions and atrricultu4 O ral products, he standing six feet four in his boots, and weighing by one of Faiibank's patent balances, 'MO lbs. precisely.

Dr.. J. C. AYLTI. Sir—The CHKRRY PECTORAL is much inquired after. Several of our best Physicians have used it. threo uf them in th«jir own case and always with the happiest effects. Dear Sir—Over application for the p-ist three years to my duties as an advocate brought on some eight months aso a se\ ere irritation of the bronchial tnbes, which was a constant annoyance to me and fast bceominsr a source of great apprehension.
