The democrats of Coal Creek township met in convention at llie Bristle Ridge school house according to previous notice on Saturday the 29th at 3 o'clock P. M- to ap-i point delegates to attend the county and

acting as President and

JOSEPH E. MCDONALD

address the meeting, and in his

speech lie showed the glaring faults and tyranical features of the Maine-Law which the enemies of republicanism and liberty are endeavoring to force upon the people of the State of Indiana, lie considered the' passage of the Nebraska bill as right and proper, giving as it docs, the right to the people to hiake their own laws. Ilis frank, old-fashioned style of speaking, astoinshed and pleased all who were present—whigs as well as democrats. After Mr.

Resolved, That virtue, morality, religion, truth, justice and every attribute of nationH1 glory and greatness have grown and flourished under the fostering care of Democracy. The sacred rights of citizenship in the pursuit, and posession of life, property, liberty, and happiness, are safe under its shield, and protection, and no passing impulse, or excitement, should induce us to weaken its power, to do good, or to operate upon our passions, in such a manner as to result in wrong, while undivided, we continue to rally around our stars and stripes, and folded under the wings of the American Eagle, those blessings, and liberties were the boon of our revolutionary fathers, will be violated.

DEMOCRATIC COUNTY

CONVENTION!!!

The DEMOCRACY of Montgomery County are recommended to meet at Crawfordsville on the

FIFTH day ct" August next to nominate a County Ticket for the ensuing October election, and the several Townships nre requested to hold meetings

in the interval and appoint delegates to the County

Convention. It is to be hoped that there will be a lull turn out of all who are friendly to the success of the great

principles of our party, and who believe that good

government and iolitieal liberty consists in restraining natural rights no further than tlio abso

lute wants of society demand and tlsat moral evils are better corrected by moral teaching than by tyranieal legal enactment, such as search, seizure, confiscation and destruction of private property.

Come one conic all. and unite harmoniously in support of republican law* and republican^institntions.

By order of the

ALD'S speech, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted. Resolved, That the first article in the democratic creed teaches us that the people are competent to govern themselves.— From the days of Alexander Hamilton to the present time, the party opposed to us have always taught the incapacity of man for self-government. Here is the very starting point, of the difference between the two great parties which divide our country and all other differences arc subordinate to this and may be resolved into it.

the janus-

faced traitor, is politically dead, condemned, and buried so deep in his political grave, that the loudest reverbations of Gabriel's trumpet can never reach his unhallowed car until Nebraska shall be clothed with all the majestic powers of a State, says Daniel, "thy sins which were many arc all forgiven thee."

Resolved, That we have full faith and confidence in the wisdom and patriotism of the nominees of the democratic state convention, and fully endorse the proceedings of that honorable body.

Resolved, That all the Democrats with nil the Whigs of Coal Creek township who are opposed to the Maine-Law, arc invited to attend and participate in the convention.

ANNEXATION or THE SANDWICH ISLANDS TO THE UNITED STATES.—The San Francis-! co Evening Journal gives the following importanl rumor:
