A MAGNIFICENT ^RAILROAD SCHEME.— The Washington correspondent of the Courier and Enquirer says:
"The Committee on Public Lands has before it a railroad project almost rivaling the Mississippi and Pacific rail road. This scheme is for a grant of lands to aid in building a road from Nfcw Orleans to Fond du Lac on Like Superior, a distance by the route proposed of about 1.500 miles. The rou'e suggested is from} New Orleans to to Jack?ori, Mississippi, thence to Helana, in Arkansas, thence on the west side of the river to St. Paul, Minnesota, crossing the Mississippi again at that point, and thence to lake Superior. The success of the application for government aid to the great work will depend to some extent upon the policy adapted by Congress in disposing uf the public lands. If it be decided to encourage all feasible and necessary enterprises for railroads in the new states, provision wiil problv be made for the realization of this project, magnificent as it appears to be."
