SUCCESS OF THE TURKS/
TIIE RUSSIANS DEFEATED
•Allied Fleets entered the Black Sea.
MASSACRE OF THE RUSSIANS!!
KEW YORK,
ASIA.—The
Jan. 31.
The Asia with Liverpool dates of the 14th inst., arrived here at about half-past .eleven o'clock this.morning.
Latest rumors from St. Petersburg were more specific and had tended in some measure to restore confidence in a speedy adjustment of difficulties. Consols advanced one per ccnt.
Liverpool cotton market was steady at unchanged prices. Breadstuff's had considerably declined, whilst provisions were •on the rise.
PARIS,
Friday—We have received a tele
renewed on the 7th, neither side claiming the victory. On the morning of the Oth a fresh struggle was about to begin.
Lord Dudley Stuart was to leave Constantinople on the 15th inst., so as to be in England for the meeting of Parliament, when he will bring the whole Eastern question before the British people.
A crowded public meeting was held at Sheffield to memoralize the government to act with vigor against Russia.
A similar meeting was held at Chester. The bread riots at Exeter already reported were of no magnitude, the rioters being mostly women and children, to demand that the bakers should.give them bread.—
The Mayor called out 100 dragoons, at «ightof whom the crowd dispersed.
BELGIUM.—King
Turkish fleet accompanied the allies. The fcecond division remained anchored at Therapa.
The Gzar appeared to view the entry of the floets as a declaration of war, and he lias •ordered «J1 his fleets to return to Sebastopie.
On the 6 th of January the Turks gained a brilliant victory-on the Danube. They stormed and captured the Russian entrenched camp at Atila, and put 2500 of the enemy to the sword. They also attacked a body of 18,000 Russians sent to relieve Atila, and after a siiarp encounter compelled them lo retreat. The Russians are thus driven back from the position at which they proposed to cross the Dauube.
The Turkish force in the battle was 14,000 men and 15 guns. It is admitted that Omar Pacha has brilliantly out mancevied the Russian commander.
defeat of the Turks under
the generalship of Abbi Pacha is confirmed, but Gen. Gugn has gone to the army with free powers, and the spirit of the Turks has revived. Now that the allied fleets are in the Black Sea, reinforcements can be sent in safety to Asia. Schamyl had sent a messenger to the Porte announcing that he is prepared to act energetically against the Russians. It is confirmed that Persia has resumed negotiations with Britain, and will not at present attack Turkey.
The American ships E. Vletclier and Condor had been fallen in with at sea, •wrecked. The crews and passengers were saved, and landed in Holland.
The infant Princess of Spain had died suddenly. Rev. j. C. Richmond complains that he is detained a prisoner by the Austrian polioe in Hungary, and calls on the United States for redress.
VIENNA,
is rumored that the Emperor will leave lor "Warsaw in icw&cr to have a conference with the Emporor -of (Russia.
From Persia we learo that the Affghan Envoy had left Teheran before the arrival of the new Russian Minister, with a threat that if Persia
formed
aci witi Rus-
jya, tine Aflghasis would invade Theresa. China news is at hand. Amony was captured by tlc imperialists, who massacred 1000 inhabitants.
OFF TUB TRACK.—The
Flour, Bnttcr,
s)
passenger train
-on the Jefferson vilie Railroad was detained several hours yesterday, by the locomotive and tender running off the track a'

miles
south of Columbus. The locomotive was •considerably damaged, and a fireman severely injured.—Louisville
