TERRIBLE RAILROAD DISASTER. As ihc iron train oil the X. A. «fe S. road, was crossing the Wca brebk, a few miles south of Lafayette, about 8 o'clock last evening, coming this way from Crawfordsville, a horse got on the track in front of the locomotive, throwing ihri locomotive off the track, by which the bridge was broken down, and the locomotive and tender precipitated down some twenty feet into the ravine. The fireman, whore name we have not learned, was killed also, Mr. Henry Goodrich, of this city, well-known on the Wabash as a heavy grain buyer. Sir. Kinch, the engineer, and another person, all that were on the train, were also scalded, nnd otherwise considerably, though it is supposed not fatally injured. There are various minors afloat concerning the cause of the terrible disaster. The particulars we have not vet learned.
There is only one certain preventative of accidents of this kind, and that is the fencing in of all railroads, which will prevent horses and cattle iretting upon the track. The
et
Legislature will have to compel every railroad company in the State to fence in their roads, as a protection to human life.—Lafayette Courier. vr. iSitockino Tragedy at Oijkulix, Onto.—
Last Wednesday evening a most revolting murder was committed about three miles east of Oberlin, 0. The facts are as follows: A man named Fullham it is alleged, had slandered a Miss Barber and another voung lady. The brother of Miss irber, and a Mr. Lovell, the lover of the other f.landered girl, took the matter up. On Wednesday morning they went to FtiHhnm to talk the matter over. He repulsed them with fearful threats and became desperately enraged. They left him and returned to their work. A fler supper one of the parlies proposed that they should take their rifles and go over to Fullham's to frighten him. Acting in accordance with this proposal, they took their guns, a rifle and a shotgun, and started. On arriving they found Fullham and his wife raking hav. Lovell advanced to him, and said: "\Vell, I've come to have it out." Fullham seized a pitchfork and made a desperate lunge at him, his wife clinging to him, shrii king and endeavoring to pi-event his striking Lovell. He succeeded in wounding him in three places with the fork. Enraged beyond control at this, Lovell 11 red his piece, mi-sing F., and lodging I lie contents in his wife's head, wounding her seriously and perhaps mortally. He then handed the empty gun to Barber to reload, and took tin loaded gun and started for home. Fullham fallowed him with his pitchfork. After going some distance, Lovell turned round and exclaimed: '•])—n me if I don't shoot you, anyhow!" he fired, and Fullham being but two fret from him, received the whole charge in his side, tearing him in a horrid manner, and killing him instantly, lie leases a family of three children. The murderers were immediately arrested'.
