He was searched, and there was found on him a wallet containing S'M8, of the denominations of one's, two's, three's, five's and ten's, on the Springfield, Miami "Valley, and Marion branches of the Ohio State Banks. The officers then went to the Franklin House and got his capet bag, and brought it and the prisoner over the river, and lodged him in the Watch House. The carpet bag was searched, and found to contain counterfeiter's tools, several different colored inks in small bottles, and banknote paper also, several sheets filled up with imitated signatures of bank officers.— They also found on him a bill for 200 sheets of bank-note paper, bought of Butler it Broihcr, December 2Uth, 1052. Jt has also been ascertained that he has passed himself off in different places as Jones, the engraver, in this city. Since his arrest, Mr. ones, the engraver, has recognized him

(?KK12Il.i*AN ('AL1FOHMA. In a recent conversation with Captain Harry Love, we obtained some interesting information respecting the bands of Mexican guerillas which infest the country.— As Captain of the State Rangers, he has obtained a mass of information respecting their organization, their haunts and their leaders, that may be made of eminent service to our citizens.

The various bands of guerillas extend from Sonora to Shasta, but their principal haunts and strongholds are in the coast range of mountains between Santa Clara and the Los Angelos Yalluies, comprising a country three hundred miles in length, and from 20 to 50 miles in width. This portion of the State is comparatively unknown but in its Solitudes and rocky fastnesses lie the retreats of hordes of desperate villians. whose descents upon the plains occur as often as their appetites for plunder «tc., may call. The bandit camp in those retreats is the rendezvous of escaped convicts and white-faced murderers there they might remain undisturbed for ten years, as the traveler never ventures so far from the settlements. Hundreds of pleasant. valleys lie in this mountain region, watered bv never failing springs. The crrass

O I O O

grows luxuriantly, the timber is plentiful, and the game to be found in the wilds, furnishes an abundance of food for the guerillas.

Harry Love snys (hat Joaquin, at a piece, could have raised two thousand desperadoes: and l:o believes that such was that bandit's purpose to scour the entire country, sack the small settlements, and before a body of troops could be raised announce himself at Sonora. The prisoner he took intimated as much to Capt. Love.

There can be no doubt that this wild region will, for years to come, unless some effective measures arc taken, offer an asylum for the offcasts of society. Thus, we think it would be desirable for the Rangers to be kept in the field, Harry Love knows the men who are leaders of the brigands, is probably one of the only men acquainted with their haunts his companions kuow not what fear is—have proved their worth and merit the praise of all.— San Joaquin 7?rp.

I\"cw Orleans papers of Friday are received. The papers contain reports of the prevalence of the fever at the various points on the river and along the coa?t. At Tliibcdeaux there were twenty deaths in three days. At Bayou Sara there was much sickness.

A son of ex-Gov. Johnson died at Montgomery, Ala., of fever. The detention of mails has been caused by the damage done to the railroad by the late rains.

On the Central Georgia Railroad, the bridge gave way as the train was passing over, and Patrick Donohuc, of New York, was thrown from the platform and instantly killed.

The Southern rivers were subsiding, and no further damage was anticipated from the freshet.
