one who understands culinary matters, can
find a comfortable home during the winter
by inquiring at this office.
DEMOCIlATJi OT M0.\Ti:03IEKY,
On this Saturday, you are called upon
to assemble in Convention, for the purpose
of selecting candidates for thc approaching
election. The system of conventions has
been productive ol much good to tin: coun
try it affords an opportunity for the peo
ple to meet together, and interchange opin
ions on questions ul public policy to recur
to fundamental principles, and to hear the
affairs of the nation discussed, [n choos
ing candidates for your standard bearers,
every consideration of patriotism, should
impel you to look well to the merit?, the
qualifications, thc morals and democracy
of those who are presented to the conven
tion lor lavor. Let Itrm. high-minded,
honorable, efficient and talented men he
placed upon the ticket, and success is sure
Thc Democracy of the nation, last year,
rallied in the majesty of their strength, and
hurled the whigs Irom power, and elected
a democratic chief magistrate to preside o-
vcr the destinies of this great and glorious
nation. In doing so, thoy had two objects
in view. The one, to stop the stream of
corruption that was flawing through the
channels of the national government, the
other to ensure a more economical and fru
gal administration. But our efforts for thc
accomplishment of these objects will all be
in vain, unless we cordially co-operate
with the President 111 his plans ot reform
unless we yield a vigorous and hearty sup
port to democratic measures, and demo
cratic men. By always standing at our
posts, and doing our duty, 111 adhering to
the time-honored usages of our partv. and
in supporting democratic men, we impart
vigor and energy to all the departments of
the Government, and stimulate them to
good works. Much is expected from the
present administration, and unless the dem
ocratic party throughout the Union pre
serve its organization, and aid and sustain
those power, thc public expectation will
not be realized. If we are not most wo-
fully nustakin, the reports of the different
heads of the Department at Washington, to
tne next Congress, will disclose more vil-
Jamv, peculation and irauds perpetrated bv .,
the Whigs, 011 the public lroaeury, tnan
can enter into the heart of man to conceive.
Upon the present administration will de
volve the duty of ferretinsr out the abuses
In order to do so, thc cordial co-operation
and support of tlie democracy must be
brought to bear. The heart of the Chief
Magistrate and his constitutional advisers,
from the State elections. If the Democracy
begiu to fold their arms sur.inent ss or
apathy, if states or counties begin to f:dti
heads° of Government, and p-^raliizc their
efforts for good. But if on the contrary, the 1111
Democracy, regarding their principles as
to their support, they will be signally blessed with a healthy and honest administration,
must be cheered with the news of victory AgricuhuraJ Societv^lor a co:nphmeiil:iry
