SENTENCE OF THE KEI,LEYS. The following is an extract of a letter
Evansville: 'i
"The Kellers who have been confined in the Hawesville jail, Ky., since last fall for the murder of Gardner and others, on board a flat-boat near Troy, have just bad their trial, and sentenced to be hung. I was present during the close of the trial, and heard the closing speech on behalf of ihe prosecution. The Jury went out and in about one hour returned a verdict of guilty against both of them—Moses and
and the whole immense throng of spectators, remained in deep and lixed silence for some time. Moses Kelley, the eldest, and most hardened villian, dropped his head in his hands for a few moments, then resumed his usual appearance of bold defiance, with marble countenance, and fixed ere on the Judge. The younger man has a pretty innocent looking countenance, mild blue eye and delicate white hands. During the whole trial he was very low with flux, and had to be brought info court on a bed.— Here he lay, pale and subdued when the verdict was read "Guilty," I saw no visible change, in his countenance. He looked as a dying man and may yet elude the sentence of ihe law by a natural death.— When asked if he had anrlhing to sav whr
his brother who was young and delicate,

FACTS
ABOUT TIN-: EVER.—A few months
ago a merchant of this city took to his home and heart a youthful bride and went to reside in the Fourlh District. Wishing to live in privacy, he engaged only one servant—a fresh green girl from the Emerald fsle. She took the fever, and in a few days died. Another was hired, and shared ihe same fate. A third and a fourth filled the vacancy in the household, and followed in succession the. sweeping summons of the same fell destroyer. Following the impulse of a natural dread, the merchant went to Mobile to avoid the destructive visitation of the scourge, and the next day buried his young and beautiful bride. Disgusted with a home where nought but empty chambers served to call up the memories of departed joys, he returned to the city to sell out his household, determined to leave a locality to him so suggestive of sorrow. He died the next day. When our informant visited the premises, there was but one living creature there. It was a solitary parrot, swinging in its lonely cage, wailing unwittingly its I deserted state. Alas, poor Poll!

GALEY.
GALET
was born in Oldham county,
Kr., but had lived in this place about 30 years. Several rears since, she was led to feel the emptiness of the world and her own sinfullness, and sought pardon in the blood of the cross and united herself with the Methodist church. For nearly a year previous to her death, she was in connection with the Presbyterian church of which her husband was a member. Her walk was orderlr, and she frequently expressed toiler Pastor her entire confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour.
More than a rear ago, she lost a lovely little boy, whose death most deeply affected her. This heavy stroke, we trust was overruled by Divine Providence to her spiritual good, and weakened the ties which bound her to earth. Her last sickness was short, accompanied most of the time with great bodily pain. For a few weeks previous to her attack, she suffered considerably from the chills, which deranged her system and wasted her strength, and from which she had not recovered when she was suddenly and violently attacked by another disease which ran its course in the space of a week. Though racked with pain, and sensible she could not recover, she was calm and resigned, and expressed the utmost willingness to leave the result with God. When enquired of again and again, whether Christ was precious to her, and whether she felt that her sins were pardoned and that she was prepared to die, her answers were mostsat-
of her children. 0! r-emcmoei
