DESECRATION".

Says the Buffalo Commercial

hands

Advertiser:

0 shame on a people, shame on a Congress that would permit Mount Vernon to pass into the

of "Northern and South

ern Capitalists." Long since it should have belonged to the nation, and been kept, no matter at what expense, in the same condition as when WASHINGTON* occupied and owned it. But neither great services rendered to the country—neither merit nor genius, nor anything else—are thought worthy of reward by our people, and we verily believe there would be no objection with the great number fo turning "Faneuil Hall into a Railroad Depot, or the State House at Philadelphia into a Distillery." The place where the first Congress met, where the first prayer was offered before that body of patriots, is now a dry goods store, and de laines and calicocs are stored against tl*e walls that of yore resounded with the eloquence of ADAMS, LEE and FRANKLIN.— This abominable devotion to seven per cent —this worship of'the mammon of unrighteousness, like a mortal cancer, eats out of the human soul ail that is best and noblest in humanity. We shall be glad to learn the tariff of prices to be paid for an admission to the home of Washington, and hope the "Northern and Southern Capitalists," who have purchased i-t will not fail to have a nicesaloon on the ground, where pop beer and monadic—sponge cake and mint juleps may refresh the visitors to the show—Mount Vernon-—Washington—what names, and what a destiny! Thi- country has permitted the old soldiers of the revolution to starve to death, and now it allows Mount Vernon to pass into the hands of speculators as a show house. Thousands of dollars squandered on political jobbers, in useless expenditure on foolish projects, thousands paid to members of Congress, about the most useless of all the dependents on the general treasury, but not a dollar for a grand national object, that of securing for the people the ownership of the. home of Washington. Mount Vernon sold, we are informed, fur §2,000,000! a pretty nice operation—it will pay—what more is necessary? Hut whether disregard of all patriotic motives—less of all national pride—a sense of public shame—a sensation of meamiess in the people that would permit it—will pay or not, let others determine, for our part we do not think the result at all questionable."

rv on ss is This Oilioc has now transacted business for more than a quarter of a century, and insured real and personal property against loss by Fire and Water to the value of more than

TWO IirXPKEI) MILLIONS OF

IN THE WKSTEUN COUNTRY. Several Thousand Losses have been incurred upon the above risks, all of which have been adjusted at the

General Agency Office

At Cincinnati and paid with the utmost promptitude according to the conditions of the Policy, as may be seen by the receipts of the several claimants on tile.

This •oinpany bases its operations upon such a perfected plan of cash orcmiums, well scattered risks and long experience in estimating hazards, that the interests of all concerned are protected. The Company receives from almost innumerable sources and in small sums, a largo annual deposit. Its Annual Premium* and Capital Sioc' Exc«4ocl $1,000,000!

From this fund, held as a public trust lossos arc paid. To secure for the public and the Company a permanent ability to meet every fair demand, all erroneous or fraudulent claims arc of course rejected. This is theonlv plan of Insurance which can_ long deserve the public confidence, and Ihc undersigned aiient confidently invites his friends to secure thenitelves at his AgeViey. against loss by

Fire, or Ihc Perils of IVavigatioifi.

The advantages rf this contract need scarcely be urged upon wealthy men. or merchants, for they rarely neglect it. and if they do. fires leave them other resources. It is especially valuable" to laboring men. mechanics and others of moderate means— who. jierhaps. have little else than a home and its contents in the world.

These should never ncglcct to insure a fire that may visit them at aiiy hour would leave them homeless. and with no capital but. their labor to begin again the struggle of life, ami years of toil and watching must pass before thev can regain what they have lost, if indeed it is ever done. To such, insurance is a duty. If the individual is worth little, the expense, is less if ho owns much property, still, the expense is tritiinir. and by investing a few dollars he is safe. If he is overtaken by misfortune and his all laid in ashes, he receives a recompense in ^ash capital equal to his loss, and may soon restore what has been destroyed.

BATHING MACHINE.-

BATHING, its necessity and expediency from the .structure and the functions of the skiff, the cuticle is eaat off in minute powdry scales, many of which are retained upon the surface by the pressure of clothing, these mingle with the oily saline products of the skin, and form a thin crust.— This crust, on account of its adhesiveness, collects particles of dust and soot from the atmosphere, and particles of foreign matter from our dress, so that, in the course of the day, the v. hole body becomes eoatod with impurities. If this coating remains it becomes thick and established upon tfie skin, and will produce the following e-Tects:

First, the pores will bo obstructed, consequently perspiration impeded, and the influence of the skin as an exertive entirely prevented, r.nd prodnces the following diseases:—Indicestion. Biliior.sness.' Ascidity, a sense of oppression in the pit of the stomach.. depression of the spirit. Heaviuas, Cold hands and Feet. Numbness r.f the limbs, arid other parts. Vertigo Nausea, Difficulty of Respiration. Stupor. Irritability. Drowsiness, Debility, Extreme Languor and Exhaustion. Restlessness. Costiveness, Ilcad-achc. Extreme Nervous Agitation. Palpitation of the Heart, an Incapacity KJ1' the slightest exercise, dfill, heavy pain and sense of weight in the Head, a temporary loss of memorya sense of Crustness, Pulse less frequent and more feeble than usual. Despondencv, Emaciation, and extreme Debility. A film of i'oreiirli substance on the skin will inevitably become tin.: seat of doliterious infections vapors. This is one reason why fiiriiy persons con tract infectious diseases more frequently than individuals of more cleanly habits. Lathing is useful to promote cleanlincss.

This bath which the undersigned have the right to manufacture a'vl sell is one of the most convenient imaginable, and can be used equally well for warm or cold weather for bathing, and only takes one bucket of witer to supply it for any lengl.h of time. The wattr is poured into the lower part of the Bath: the person bathing stands upon a platform above the water, and by a slight movement of the body, throwing the weight alternately from one foot to the other, the water is forced up into the sprinkler, from which it comes down on the bather with much force, the water passing into the pump at the fulcium. gives great power to ike double-act-ing force pumn placed under the feet of the bather, ci using the water to shower down with any desired force: indeed the bather has it in his r.ower to produce a violent shock or gentle sprinkle by his own action. One bucket of water will answer every purpose, (as one washbowl answers to wash ones lace) the same water being thrown over the bather repeatedly in a constant current: but it is so arranged that where it is not desirable to u?e the water noire than once, it can be replaced with fresh water, with very little trouble. These Laths are warranted to be'durablc in every particular. Persons desiring Laths, who live, at distance can be supolicd immediately, by sending their address and twelve dollars. The strictest care will be taken in shipping Baths. All orders promptly attended t.
