West and J. V. Wilson, of Bloomington, l'reston Eaglesou, of the State University, tiled suit against J. B. Fruchey, proprietor of the Null House, for S100 damages. The suit was brought under the Civil Rights bill and the charge is that the Nutt House refused to accommodate ICagleson when he came here to play foot ball with the I. I", team because of his color—which is a bright shade of mahogony. Eagleson originally intended to sue for 000, but came down a few notches when hifc attorneys informed him that he could only recover 5100 under the Civil Rights law.

The Nutt House people will tight the suit and state at the proper time they will submit an adequate defense.

The jury in the damage suit of IkDrake, the colored courtier, against the llonou road, wrestled with the momentous problem last night until I o'clock and then returned a verdict which sustained the evidence of both sides to some extent and found that if the law was with the plaintiff that he be given 0 damages. The court has not yet given judgment in the case. The evidence was to the effect that Ike came capering over the track near the station from one of the saloons just in time to collide with a train or be knocked off the track by a chunk of coal. It was shown that lie had not been so careful as he might have been. If Ike gets his claws on that S'iiiO he will cut a heavy swell and will doubtless drive to distraction the lady who recently spurned his ardent love. The precedent set will doubtless have the effect of inducing whole droves of Ike's ebony comrades to loiter about tiie Morion station or prance recklessly about in front of moving trains, in the hopeful expectation of having some beefy brakeman lire chunks of coal against their adamantine craniums.

The two elevens were composed of colored boys, who kept that part of town aroused by their noise until night. Serious complaints were made to the police, and the result was that Hi out of the 22 engaged in the sport were "lined up" before the mayor this morniug to defend themselves for desecrating the Sabbath. All plead guilty and each was assessed a fine which with costs, amounted to §14.

UAME OF THE DEVIL.

It Hulls Originally from Chlua and Used to He Played In Kurop*. What is called the "Game of the Devil" dates back to China, where it is called lvouen-gen, to a very remote antiquity, and has been played in France at different epochs of mod rn times, especially at the beginning of the present century.

The "devil" is thrown into the air by means of a string which the player keeps taut by the skillful use of two sticks, and upon which he Is to catch it. "I remember having often seen this game in the hands of one of my friends," snvs a contributor to a French periodical. "According lo him, the game was in great favor in Helgium in his boyhood, about fifteen years ago, especially at colleges, where the young men often got up genuine matches between two and even three players, "The devil's form varies a little from tSiat of the 'ICouen-gen.' It is made of two tin cones connected by their apices, and provided with apertures for the production of a humming sound when the devil revolves very fast. A good strong player can easily throw it to a height of more than forty feet.''

Something less than a quarter of a century ajro this game was much played at l'aris. The devil was made of two hollow boxwood balls.

La grippe is confounded by many persons with a severe attack of catarrh. which, in some respects resembles the former. These individuals suffer severely with pain about the forehead, eyes and ears, with soreness in throat and stoppage of nasal passages, and, in fact, are iucapacitated for work of any kind for days at a time. These are catarrhal sufferers. Ely's Cream lialm has been used with the best results in such cases The remedy will give instant relief.
