1 HE Y. M. C. A. BUILDING.
A Which 11 I.Ie*tilt In lt« f'on10 Club.
As is generally known the V. M. C. A. building in tins city is a part of the assets of Wm. 11. Durham and as such will have to be sold withiu the next three or four months for the benelit of his creditors. It is also known that while the association is in fairly prosperous condition that it can not buy the building unless it receives a large number of liberal donations. The appraised value of the building is $15,000 and where the association could secure this sum or its guarantee, seems to be a very grave question.
It has leaked out in the last few days that a movement is on foot to gobble up the building and convert it into a social club. Some pretty substantial men are back of the idea and have means of accomplishing their purpose. Said one of them: "We ure merely talking the thing over and have as yet taken no action at all. We do uot iuteud to buck the association at all but if it can't secure the building and continue it in its good work, why then we may step in and buy it for a club. Time will tell. We areu't after the association at all but if there is a white elcphaut loose in the woods, we may capture him."

Alberts. Reed thinks Tilt: Jot UNA!. did the new ice companj" an injustice a short time ago in suggesting the idea that it was connected with Collin & Stanton or the American Debenture Company. De assures that such is not the case and that the capital is all from Indianapolis, except a little that he will have in it himself, lie wants the company to start out with the good will of the community and is confident that when once started its treatment of the public will be such that there will never be the slightest friction such as has existed between the people and the owners of th water plant.

Good Service.
Receiver Haynes has completed th overhauling of the gas plant and th service is now the best the cit3? has had in years, the candle power being right up to the standard. Since Mr. Haynes has taken charge of the water aud light plants there has been a radical change for the better all around. The hide-bound selfishness of the Collin Stanton people has been eliminated and reasonable requests are granted. Some needed extensions and improvements have been made and the average citizen now passes a water plug without a desire to crack it with a "dor nick.
H»* Failed To Provide.
Mary Lawton has brought suit for divorce against Wm. Lawtou. She married William some time ago but William did not live up to the vows and protestations of the sugarcoated courtship, lie was exceedingly short in his provision of cornbread and calico to gay nothing of game suppers and sealskin sacques. In fact he proved a blooming fizzle as a provider and as Mrs. Lawton is not possessed of the ability of the chameleon to live on air, she left William's roof and brought the, suit.
A SuggeHtion For the City Fathers. r\ stone mason of large experience said to THE JoritNAi, to-day: "The city could save a couple of thousand dollars or more on the Wabash avenue bridge by putting in four piers, each pier not to contain more than ten yards of stone for the bridge to rest on. It will be just as substantial as to put in eleven hundred yards. Th difference in the cost would be the difference between forty yards and eleven hundred yards, which at §:i would be the difference between 3120 and S3,300."

A "New Bridge or None. I
The residents of the east end and especially those on Wabash avenue, llocum and Pike streets, are considerably exercised because it has been proposed to drop the Wabash avenue bridge matter and let the Monon road repair the old death trap which now swings and rattles menacingly over the yawning chasm. They make all sorts of dire threats and it is pretty certain some suits would follow the dropping of the project. The situation at the Monon cut where Wabash avenue and llocum street effect a junction is such that only a new bridge will serve any sort of a purpose and it must be a bridge the width of the street. There are all reasons for this and none against it. If the bridge cannot be begun immediately it would be far better to allow the old trap to remain closed until it can be replaced by a suitable structure. This is the view which the council will doubtle of the matter. :.V
