The second reunion of tlie soldiers and families of Brown and Scott townships, was held Nov. Si, at the home of Mrs. S. A. James, four mileB north of Waveland, in honor of their comrade, Peter James, whose death occurred three years ago. About fifty were present. The house was draped with the stars and stripes and from the flag pole floated the flag which brought to the soldiers' mind so plainly "the boys in blue." At high noon a sumptuous dinner was served, after which the house was called to order by President llerrall and proceeded to the transaction of business, after which several nteresting talks were given by soldiers. Eleven soldiers were present and six regiments were represented. Before adjournment the soldiers sang some old national hymns. The association expects to continue these reunions and any friend is invited who has the pass through the guard lines— asket well filled with dinner.

B. O. Flower, the editor of the Arena, opens a series of papers in the December issue on Factors in Immorality, which discusses tthe age of consent laws in the different States. In some of the States the asre at which a child can consent to her own ruin is as low as ten years, a disgrace to a people professing Christianity and calling themselves civilized. This is affording legal protection to the lowest kind of brutes that usurp the human form. At this age a girl is not legally permitted to sell her doll, and yet she can sell -her body for destruction. The Arena is going to ventilate this sort of legislation thoroughly and put the facts as they are before intelligent
American manhood and womanhood. Other writers in this series will be Frances E. Willard, Dr. O. Edward Janney, M. D., Rev. Josph May. Rev. A. II. Lewis, D. D., Helen II. Gardener, the author of "Pray You, Sir?'' Dr. Emily lilackwell, M. D., and Aaron Powell, of the Social Purity League.
Robert Grant (whose story "A liachelor's Christmas" was the great success of last December number of Scrllmcr'n) contributes another Christmas tale which will meet with equal favor.. It is entitled "The Matrimonial Tontine Benefit Association." There is a novel idea suggested in the story which will probably be utilized in a practical way.

The career of this Association sinco its organization is too well Itaoivn in Crawfordsvilie and vicinity to require an extended de scription. The shares are 8200 each, weekly dues 50 cents per share. They may be paid weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. The membership fee is 50 cents per share. Persons desiring shares can secure them by ".ailing at the office of the secretary, U. it. First payment in the new series will Vie made on Mondaj', December 3 1. Like all other associations of the kind this one reports annually to the Auditor of State, under whose supervision it is. As a matter of fact it was largely instrumental in securing the enactment of this wise and eflieient law by the last general assembly of Indiana.
