A Proposed Avenue.

The contract for the tuasouery work on the new Wabash avenue, bridge i11 be let on December f» and the work pushed to completion. City Kngineer Waugh proposes the opening of a new route to the .Junction, ami his proposition is meeting with great favor. His idea is to open a new avenue extending from the Wabash avenue bridge, parallel with the Morion track to the .Junction. The route is not built up at present and would be shorter and more practicable than any existing route. It is not improbable that the plan will be earrh out by the council..,.

It was learned last night that two men carrying packages had been seen running through the college campus about an hour after Odieer Martin tired on the burglars. Thej' arc thought to have been the guilty parties. It was reported that the watch stolen had been ottered for pawn at Atkiuson's groceryyesterday. This is erroneous as the watch ottered was one of a wholly different pattern.

A touching story of a rat eomes from Rickmansworth. The hero is old and blind. He lives with his family on a sewage farm, and since lie has lost the use of his eyes he has taken his daily airing with two of the younger members of his family. To guard against misadventures tlie three go abreast, with a piece of stick in their mouths, which the youngsters use as a tiller to steer the blind gentleman with. Thus fortified the alllietcd rat is enabled to take his walks over his native sewage farm, crossing planksand eluding dogs as in the day of his youth and vigor. Even the lady who "cut off their tails with the carving knife" will have no chance against the blind rat of Hickmans worth. Westminster (»a/.et te.
