Miss Mary Powers accompanied them and will spend the winter in Kansas. —The commissioners yesterday trranted the election bill. The Sheriffs were allowed for four days and the inspectors for five. The board held no session to-day but will meet again tomorrow. —The foot ball game Saturday between the Crawfordsville high school ti'iini and the lireencastle team is expected to be a very interesting game.

One of the suits is liasetl on the patent of Thomas A. Watsou on a telephone call signal anil also on polarized armatures fur electric bells. The complaint claims that the Watsou patents were assigned to it by the American Hell Telephone Company. The other two suits are based on the alleged infringement of patents owned by the complainant on hinges for telephone boxes and magneto-electric generators for telephone call signals. The Young Ladies' Missionary Society of Center church held a very successful birthday parly last evening. Kight hundred invitations were put out and about half of them were accepted. Kueh guest was requested to put in the little sack enclosed ill the invitation as many pennies as he is years old. The receipts were i|tiite large and delicious refreshments were served. The musical programme was much appreciated aud socially the affair was a great success.

The Captain alleges that he accomplished this pleasant feat single handed and with one line. There was an exciting game of basket ball played at the V. M. A. armory last evening between the teams captained by Cliff Voris aud Charley Whittington. Voris' team won by a score of 50 to 27. The first game of the league series will be played here next Thursday evening between the teams of Crawfordsville and Indianapolis.

Purdue Jmimal: The cars used by the Purdue University foot ball club in their trip to Champaign. 111., passed through this city this morning on their way to the repair shops at Toledo Perhaps never was a car used in worse manner. A number of the seats were broken up completely. The boys had a second game in the cars, no doubt. 1 the students will make half the effort to win the game Saturday that the players are making we shall certainly be second inthe collegiate league. Of course it is almost the end of the month and our allowance is nearly gone, but consider how much depends on our presence and encouragement. Last evening there arrived in Xew Market from Waveland a mau apparently thirty-five years of age who went to the Kennedy Hotel and put up, taking supper and engaging a room for the night, lie gave his name as 0. l\ Vallandingham of The Eagle Art Company of I'aoli, Ind., a concern engaged in eularging pictures, lie hud beeu drinking some and his gait was rather unsteady when he left the house after supper. He visited the NewMarket saloon and after leaving there was seen no more alive. This morning his dead body was found in the hayloft of Mr. Smith, near the Kennedy Hotel, lie had apparently died in great pain. His forehead was scratched and bruised as though he had stumbled against something but no other marks were on his body.

Coroner liarcus was summoned at once and went down to hold an inquest. Later Undertaker MeClure was called down with a hearse and brought the body up to Crawfordsville this afternoon. Vallandingham had a pocket full of orders for work and other papers. He was well dressed and is supposed to have come from Lexington. Ky.

A post mortem examination will 1 held on the remains to determine the cause of his death.

The Telephone Suit.

The suit of the American Pell Telephone Company against the Harrison Telephone Company is on and the subscribers to the Home Telephone Company here which operates under a lease from the Harrison Company have received notice from the Central Union Telephone Company, which is a branch of the Hell Company, that the latter owns patents covering all fundamental principles.
