Yesterday afternoon he was welcomed by about three hundred in an elegant grove at Cornettsville and made a telling speech. The Senator was tilled to overflowing with Republican enthusiasm and made a most argumentative talk of over an hour.

On Thursday evening about 9 o'clock a rather unusual proceeding occurred

a noise in the rear of the establishment. lie stepped to the back door to investigate its cause when some murderous scoundrel concealed in the dark alley hurled a brick bat against his face with great force. Bly's nose was broken and his face terribly cut. He fell unconscious and was picked up and cared for by others in the saloon. The attack was wholly unprovoked as lily had not even spoken. He is a (|uiet. inoffensive sort of a chap and why he should be thus assaulted is a mystery. The police suspect a gang of half grown desperadoes who frequently figure in the police courts as beiny the authors of the meanness.

This season he is under the management of J.
