MRS. IMCASLER.

Her Advice to Over-Ambitions Women.

[SPECIAL TO OCE LAD* REAPERS.}

Mrs. Ida Caslcr, of 128 Olive Street, Syracuse, N.Y., believes that there is no amountof money large enough to equal a good, sound, healthy constitution.

Here is a history of her case:—

She was so ill with falling of the womb and

leueorrlio'a that she could not stand. She was attended by several doctors without benefit, and was completely discouraged.

One evening she heard what Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound had done for other women, and decided to try it, together with Mrs. Pinkham's Sanative Wash, and it is well she did, for she says:—

I am now well and strong. I am not troubled with either trouble, and all owing to Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound.

If more women would use the Compound there would be less suffering in the world. Many women bring on their troubles by over-work. Remember good health will outbid riches every time."

Krrutlr Treacher Files a Suit Against Wife for Divorce.

The following special from Wabash concerns Rev. .1. \Y. l'orter, recently of this county, who married several years ago a daughter of the late Asbury Hicks, of Scott township:

In the Wells circuit court to-day, liev. .1. W. l'orter, the unfrocked clergyman of the Baptist church at Liberty Center, crowned his sensational career by tiling suit sor divorce from his wife, Alice. l'orter, who was lately expelled from the church for picking the pocket of Miss Lizzie Sparks, of Hanquo. of fifty dollars, claims that his wife caused his disgrace, charging him with erimes of which he was innocent! asserting that he had put poison in her coffee and was a kleptomaniac. He claims she vily abused him and was wasteful and extravagant.

People here will be very loth to be lieve the sensational charge against Mrs. Porter. She comes of one of the best families in this county and has al ways been highly respected—something which cannot be said of her husband -.

THE EASTERN STAR.

A Mont Successful Kiitrrtalniiu'iit by the Order I.ast Night.

Within the annals of the secret socities of Crawfordsville.nothing has ever excelled, doubtless never even equaled the entertainment at Masonic llall last night. It was purely Masonic, being confined to the members of the Order of the Eastern Star. The occasion was a visit of Troy Chapter of Covington, '.nd., to Athens Chapter, of this city. The visitors were met at the station by a reception committee, taken to the Kobbins House, and refreshed with an elegant supper.

They were then escorted to Masonic Hall, and welcomed with fraternal cordiality before the ceremonies of the evening began. Troy Chapter had consented to perforin the ritualistic work for their entertainers, and in a graceful and interesting manner they conducted the ceremonies of initiation, inducting into Athens Chapter Mr. and Mrs. MatC. Kline, Mr. and Mrs. .laeob Joel, and May Kline, and Gertrude Harlowe of Wayuetown.

After the initiation, the oflicers of Athens Chapter exemplified the truly beautiful floral work in the most charming way to the great entertainment and delight not only of the guests but of the home Chapter as the frequent Japplause heartily testfied. At the close of the Floral Work, Miss Maud Cowan and Miss Helen Watson gave with appropriate costumes the beautiful and touching duet of Ruth and Naomi. During the rendering of this noble song, tears were observed quietly to course down manly cheeks which are not often wont to be thus gently wet. Many a first class'opera stage has never surpassed the performance jf these young ladies. Next came the short speeches by the newly elected Stars and the visitors, some of which were exceedingly amusing, especially those of our citizens. Mr. Kline and Jake Joel, the old reliables, true Masons both, who but shine a little brighter for having donned the starry crown tendered by the fair hands of their sisters.

The sentiment of the entertainment was then given by Mrs. Mattie Hritts in these words: "In view of the graceful work done both by our guests and by our Floral Chapter, we are proud to say that even in these degenerate modern days, the wisdom of Athens and the glory of the heroes of Troy still live in the Eastern Star."

The ceremonies all concluded, the Stars retired "from labor to refreshment," and the fine cake, rich coffee, ice-cream, etc., disappeared like dew on a sunny morning, feasting the body as both mind and soul had feasted on the absorbing rites of the evening.

The visitors from Troy were as follows: Mr. aud Mrs. A. R. Campbell.Mr. and Mrs. W. II- Miles. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Miles, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Layton. Mr.and Mrs. PeterOst, Mr. and Mrs F. U. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. S. Kauimann: Mesdames A. Moore, 11. Voltz. J. 15. Martin, C. Froyd, and Misses Louis Voltz, liirdie liergdale, Ruth Uoord, Lydia Myers and 1). W. Simms

DEL AN A E WILLIAM,

r\t tiie Head of the DemocVHtlc Hippodrome' He Speaks at Darlington.

Special to the Journal. DAUI.IXOTO.V, Oct. 17.—For some time bills had been posted in and around town announcing the fact that D. E. Williamson, candidate for Joint Representative, would speak in Millet's hall at this place last night. The night came, the speaker came, the crowd came, but when they found out that this was the same old man Williamson who a few years ago all over this country advised the Republicans when they buried a Democrat to bury hi 111 face downward so that when he commenced to dig he could dig towards home, they immediately dug for home and stayed there, so that when he arose to speak actual count showed the

Democrats to number exactly with the lirookshire postmasters of the county that voted the Democratic ticket at the last election. The speaker explained that had there not been a Cleveland he to-day would not have been a Democrat. Then at times he seemed heartsick, weary, alone, busted, gone up, played, skinned, hung out. smashed, pulverized, shivered, scattered, physical peeked, bled and blistered, and looked at times almost ready to say such is or was or used to be Deinoc racy. J. J. Mills opened the meeting with John Hulet. as chairman, on his stool at the door. W. li. liooher. who is Vory's postmaster, could not attend for the same reason we presume that he did not attend the last election. Jere West was here and his soul seemed full of grief and his big heart ready to burst with grief from the fact that, lb Democrats of Franklin township did not know how to vote and immediate ly began to elucidate the art of scratching.

Now hail it not been for the fact that on last week the ProhibitionisLs and Populists both made failures here the Democrats would not have put forth such an effort and the shock would not have been so great. Then those infernal Republicans had, oh, such a nice meeting and more Democrats were out that night than ours, so that all we can now do is to keep on with our lamentation, the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer and tin tariff is a tax.

D. McCallister was on hands busy among the brethren teaching them who compose the Democratic trinity and proved conclusively that it was Dave McCallister, one. Yinee Crai two, and E. V. lirookshire. three, us three and no more unless they work their own salvation.

The forces were ably commanded by J. P. Coleman from the east. Ewell Eigle from the south, Joe Owsley from the west, (although Joe says his rooster is now setting), aud Oth Long from the north. Now Oth resides in Siij Creek township but on last night had been persuaded to take part in this demonstration and true to his word was here. The crowd was variously estimated, but actual count showed, speakers and candidates U, ladies 20 Republican voters 13, Prohibitionists 1, Populists,2, Democratic voters20, small boys 0. Next morniug th ewind blow eth where it listeth but you couldn't hear the sound thereof. Again then is weeping and wailing and chewing the rag in Darlington.

Unten To Me.

Wlioop! Listen to me. st I'm Vory lirookshire, I am. I'm red-eyed, rip-roaring. And runuing tilings In the Eighth, You bet! I'm from the head waters Of Patronage Slough. I atn, .. And when 1 Move around the country Things tie up, And don't you forget it! Talk about being of Congressman— Huh! When 1 get back directly, I'll just wipe up the world With the Swaller tails. Reduce taxes. Import Chinese, And raise merry h— See if I don't! Just watch me Do 'em For I'm 11, I am Faris, he thinks.

You know. That he's a-running For Congressman, And so does old Rankin: But, lordy, there Hain't nobody into this Hut just ME— D'ye see? When I slam and slosh around And rear up and chew soap— And howl. The rest of 'em they Take to the bresh. they do. And little old Vory Brookshire With his chest all swelled Out. His long, black coat And shaggy hair, Aud Kentucky colonel Slouch hat, Straddles the universe— That's what! Just watch ME Do 'ein, For I'm It. I am! Wow!! Vow!!!! Yip!!!!!!!

If Wabash wins to-morrow's game the future of foot ball is secure here and hearty support will be accorded the team. If she loses, the reverse is true. Let every player bear this iu mind and play like a veritable fury

Let the crowd that goes to Greencastle to-morrow see to it that the players are encouraged. The Wabash students never yell except when their team is winning. This is not the time to yell The time to yell is when the back bones of the players need stiffening.
