America Leads the Nations in the March of Progress.
Among the wonders of the World's Columbian Fair the
grandest was the exhibit of American products. The
hibition was, in this respect, an object lesson of the grandeur
and glory of the Republic. Among the exhibits from the
United States no article of its class stood so high as
Dr. Price'sCrearn Baking Powder.
The Chief Chemist of the Agricultural Department at
Washington, backed by an intelligent jury at the Lxposition,
found it strongest in leavening power, peerless in its purity
and beyond comparison i:i uniform excellence.
Received Highest Award At the World's Fair.
The award is a matter of official record. Nothing could settle so decisively the immeasureable superiority of Dr. Price's over all other powders as the
great honor bestowed at Chicago.

The Morton Club held an enthusiastic meeting last night at its club 100ms 011 Washington street. President Ban-del-presided. Twelve new members were admitted, and among the number two Democrats. Win. Hromley, Sr.. being called upon delivered 011c of his old time Republican speeches full nf lire and vinegar. Loud calls were then made for Win. A. Rice, of North linion, who delivered a ringing speech which created the loudest of applause and great enthusiasm. Altogether it was a most excellent meeting. Next Tuesday night the club will be addressed by a former Democrat who will make his maiden Republican speech. The gentleman referred to has always been a Democrat and has never voted any other ticket, but this year intends to vote the Republican ticket and next Tuesday evening will give his reasons for his change of heart. Let the hall be crowded to see and hear this gentleman.

FARIS AND MOORE AT MACE.
Spoke to a Crowded Houne and Many Turned Away.
Hou. George \X. t'aris, Republican candidate for Congress, and lion. T. T. Moore, Republican candidate for Joint Representative, are now canvassing this county. They spoke at I.adoga oil Monday night and the opera house was full to overflowing. It is reported to be one of the best meetings ever held in the town. Both Mr. Faris and Mr. Moore left a good impression and stirred up the Republicans to their working pitch. Yesterday forenoon t.liey spent at New Ross meeting and mingling with the people. At night they tilled au appointment at Mace, and as at Ladoga the. house was crowded, many being turned away unable to gain admittance. Mr. Faris is an engaging speaker and his discussion of the tariff and the incidental issues of the campaign is clear and convincing. Mr. Moore devotes his time to a discussion of the State issues and favors many needed reforms. This afternoon they speak in Sugar Creek township and to-night at Darlington.
THAT WABASH AVEXUE BRIDGE,
The UaiigerouH Structure Will Soon He Hemoved To Make Way For Better One.
The bridge over the Monon cut on east Wabash venue will soon be a thing of the past. The council will hold a special meeting this evening at (i o'clock to take final action on the matter. A letter has been received from the Monon people offering to deliver free of charge all the rough stone necessary for the abutments.
The city will doubtless build up the stone work and the county finish the superstructure. The bridge will be the width of the street with double wagon and foot crossings and will be built to last one hundred years. The present structure has been dangerous for several years and is at present chiefly supported by the gas pipes which cross it. It is remarkable that some accident has not occurred there before this. The new bridge will also open for the extension of llocum street. There will be space enough left between the abutments for a double track for the Monon ralroad.
A SPARK OS THE ROOF.
Tlie Kegldence of J. J. Darter Completely Destroyed ly Fire.
Yesterday afternoon about o'clock the residence of J. .1. Darter, west of the city on the Yountsville road was discovered to be on fire. The (lames gained rapidly and all efforts to extinguish them proved futile. Attention was turned then to saving the household goods, most of which were rescued. The residence, however, was completely destroyed. The fire undoubtedly originated from a spark falling on the roof. The weather being so dry and a stiff breeze blowing the result was inevitable. The loss is placed at 52,500 and is about covered by insurance. The house was not owned by Mr. Darter as he had just sold it a few days ago to Richard ijrimes, of Putnam county, who was •soon to have taken possession. The house will likely be rebuilt at once.
In the cellar of the house were several hundred bushels of potatoes which were, of course, lost. Mr. Darter will move to town as soon as he can secure a house.

He was a most excellent citizen and in all his relations of life was highly esteemed for his man\' virtues. He leaves a family.
The funeral services will take place at Mace to-morrow conducted by Rev. I. M. Stafford, after which the remains will be taken to Darlington where the |interment will be made, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows of which he was an honored member.

We desire to thank the ladies of this city for their attendance and patronage at our opening of cloaks and furs Monday, as well as the kind attention we always receive on this line and all others. We have no word of complaiut regarding our treatment by the people of this city and county but we desire to say a few words in the interest of our city and home interests. There is advertised for Thursday an opening and display of cloaks and furs by an Indianapolis house and we feel it will receive a certain amount of attention from our citizens, as they think in their own interests, which is natural. We blame no one for buying to their own interests, and would not ask your trade if we charged you more than you can buy for elsewhere, but we have always and still maintain that wc sell goods just as cheap as any Indianapolis house. Some time ago the merchants of Indianapolis made a fight against Cincinnati openings in their city and are now protected by a high license. We do not ask this this protection from our city government nor is it desirable we think. We do not fear competition, we only ask fair treatment for the merchants of Crawfordsville who are here in dull timesas well as prosperous, pay taxes aud in other ways help to make our city prosperous. We would say. go look at the goods ot the hotel, then give the home merchants a look, not this house alone, but the other good stores in Crawfordsville, and we will guarantee home stores will save you from two to ten dollars on your cloak. For that day we will give all our profits to keep trade at home, and sell cloaks aud furs at cost, and invite all other dealers in this line to assist us.
Yours "ery respectfully. L. liiseiiOF.
