the rear of the shop which is poorly defended and through which pervious raids have been made. Four pairs of pantaloons, two vests and a new overcoat, were carried off, but no money was secured, that beinj^ locked up in the safe. As yet the thieves have not been detected. The robbery is supposed to have occurred about 1 clock. At that hour a woman of the neiffhoctrhood happened being up and from her window heard an unusual and suspicious noise in the shop. The best show of the season will be at .Music Ilall to-morrow evening and those who fail to attend will regret it. The Wales Comic Opera Company receives the most Haltering notices wherever it goes and it will be a rellection upon our theater goers if thev do not till the house. The company was at Terre Haute last evening and passed through here this morning 011 their way to I.ogansport. They have two special cars, one for baggage and the other for themselves. All told there are fifty-four of them including three children. The Terre Haute K.r/i)V,s.v devoted a half column to their performance V: ^Among other things it said:

The Wales Comic Opera Company presented the bright, light opera ••Athenia," to an appreciative audience last night. The attendance was good, but it would have been much better had the quality of the performance been better known. "Athenia" is a merry, satirical all'air. which holds up our dignified Senators and Senatorial dignity with clever satire. A number of Senators were |uito distinctly represented. The descent upon Washington of Aleibiades (!un 11. as delegate from I tali, with his twenty attractive wives, made an amusing complication. Mr. lligelow, as (Minn, was a very entertaining comedian. Of many good tilings, his topical song. "Let it I'ass," was the greatest hit. Miss (Irace Golden did not sing until the second act, to speak of, when she gave a solo, whose sweetness and beautiful execution deserved the enthusiastic applause it received. After pretty dancing, which was both graceful and modest, by Miss Clarisse Agnew. the remarkable La Iiegaloncita. a beautiful little Chilean girl, gave a fan dance and again some marvelous ligures mixed up with a

In the afternoon yesterday lJ. S. Kennedy continued the argument for! the defense presenting his points very strongly. A. II. Anderson closed for the plaintiffs and made one of his characteristic speeches which was very closely followed. The judge then gave his instructions and the jury retired. All night long the battle was waged in the jury room. No verdict was made up until after breakfast this morning. At 'J o'clock when court assembled the jury filed in and presented its verdict. The verdict was read and it was for the plaintiffs. The last will and testament of Alfred Dudley Young was declared null and void. The defense was visibly surprised and made no effort to conceal it. After the verdict was read the jury polled and dismissed.

The jurors talked freely of the verdict but requested that the original stands taken by the individual jurors be kept secret. The lirst ballot was eight to four in favor of the plaintiffs. It gradually fell from this to a unanimous vote for the plaiutiiTs.

The verdict sets the will aside and the estate under the decision will be divided by law. Mrs. A. lJ. Voting will receive half the estate and the other half will go to tin three children of Lafayette Young, deceased. Robert N oting, the nephew who by the will was to have secured half the estate upon the death of Mrs. A. I.). Young, is by the verdict cut off without a penny.

The defense will ask for a new trial of the case. If a new trial is refused by .Judge lladley the case will be taken to the Supreme Court and some lively litigation will follow before the matter is finally closed.

Naturally the victors are much elated and the vanquished quite depressed. Mrs. Young shed tears while walking from the court room. The casual onlooker with property to dispose of can get several pointers from the result of this bitterly contested case.

liurmiui Orilii'is.'tl.

Probably no other sentence ever hurt business so much as the remark by P. T. Harnum that "the American people like to be humbugged.''

You have heard half a hundred people say of different stores. "1 never will go there again. They are cheats. They advertised so-and-so and when I got there, they didn't have it, or it wasn't nearly as good as they said."

If a pleased customer is the best of all advertisements, isn't a displeased one the worst? How often the ^opportunity comes to say, "Oh, 1 wouldn't go there why don't you go to Hlank'sV'

That comes from being humbugged because a merchant believed l!ar11 urn.

And Harnum himself didn't really humbug people. His show was really the -'greatest on earth," and really gave a great big fifty cents' worth for a half-dollar.

He advertised to furnish amusement and lie did. Even his lies were ainuseing, entertaining. We. none of 11s. believe in fairy tales, but most of 11s, children or grandpas, like to read tlieiu.

Hut we don't buy groceries and drugs and dry goods for amusement. Not a bit of it. We buy them because .we have to, and we want honest value lor our money and no nonsense about it. If we can't get it in one store, we'll go to another. We don't like to be humbugged and won't be if we can help it.

Harnum was wrong. He's dead anyway. And buried.
