IiO, tho poor ludlan With untutored mind, I.lues oui the ball And pluck It from tlie wind.
Tlie Wabash College ball team with a few local additions undertood yesterday to swipe the noble red men at base ball. The Ponca Indians, headed by the courtly and handsome Stick-Nasty-Jiin arrived on the grounds earty and proceeded to give the war cry of their tribe. They were not at all dangerous, however, and whether iu field, at bat or running basis they smoked the straight cut cigarette of peace. A goodly audience [(many of whom carried revolvers in case of an emergency) assembled to witness the play. The game opened with Wabash at the bat and for three or four innings the boys went after the uncivilized red skins in a manner calculated to cause the proud Caucassian blood of the onlookers to surge through their veins like bilge water through a sluice. The pale faces then concluded that they had a snap and began to play horse with the aborigines. That is where they got fooled. The wily savages got down to work and when the collegians woke up to sense of the situation it was too late. They failed to score in the last two innings and Mr. Stiek-N'asty-Jim won the game for the scalp taking savages by poping the ball over the left lield fence when there were two outs and Mr. Spotted Tail was on second base. The game closed with a score of II to ID in favor poor Lo. The savages play pretty good ball, their out fielding, running and throwing being gilt edged. They are inonkies at the but. however, and could have been beaten if the boys had only kept down to business.

DANGEROUS CRIMINALS CAPTURED.'
Tbe Police Land A Couple of Men Who Are Wanted For Many Crimes.
Yesterday uf noon Marshal Grimes aud Oilieer Jack Bannister lauded a couple of as vicious and dangerous rascals as have been scooped in many a long day. Yesterday morning Marshal Grimes received the following letter from Thorntown:
Tiiouxtown, Ind., Oct. 8, 1S04.—Chief of Police, Crawfordsville. lud.—Tlie hardware store of Sefton & Pierce was robLed last night of the following goods: Two revolvers, one 22 calibre pearl handle, engraving on barrel and cylinder and set with red cut glass one «32 calibre, rubber handle about fifteen pocket knives, brands Keen Cutter and Uolle M'f'g Co. about ten razors, brands Barber Pet and Royal also some scissors and cartridges. Please be on lookout.
Mosb Bhow.n,
Marshal Thorntown.
Investigation was begun and it was soon found that the thieves were in town. They had arrived early yesterday and had begun at once to visit the saloons and low resorts of the town. They disposed of a portion of their plunder to saloon keepers and bad women and spent the day in beastly carousal. Late in the afternoon Officers Grimes and Bannister captured them at the notorious Black Hills resort. where they were engaged in fiendish and disgraceful orgies. They were clapped into jail and gave their names as Frank Moore and Ed Tolbert. Upon their persons were found many of tlie stolen goods and all except the razors were obtained from parties here to whom the bucaneering thieves had sold or given them. Last night the Marshal of Thorntown and a member the firm which was robbed arrived and identified the goods. The men were taken back to Thorntown to-day to answer for their evil deeds.
Moore is evidently the leader and is a plug ugly tough of the worst description. He is a vicious and depraved criminal and shows it in every word and action. His description tallies with that of one of the most notorious sneak thieves and desperadoes in the country. Tolbert was raised in this county and has reputable relatives living north-east of town. He is a tool in Moore's hands and will probably get off easier.
The authorities of Boone county should make an example of these men. These burglaries in small towns and of country stores have been altogether too frequent and now that a couple of the rascals are captured they should be given the limit of the law. Public welfare calls loudly for an example and the Boone county authorities will make no mistake in rubbing it in on these bad birds.
The Beall Concert.
Small but appreciative fitly describes the audience that assembled at the Christian church last evening to hear the concert given for the benefit of the Wabash Athletic Association. Mr. and Mrs. Beall, who furnished most of the numbers, proved to be singers of unusual merit and were very warmly received. rs. Beall's voice is a high soprano of rare purity and sweetness and Mr. Beall's is a tenor of a quality that harmonizes beautifully with his wife's voice. Their duets were equally pleasing on this account. Mrs. Nellie Nicholson Hall was at her best in tlie "Magnetic Waltz" and Miss Bess Nicholson appeared to advantage in a duct with Mrs. Beall. Miss Condon and Mr. Skinner, who were to have taken part in the concert, failed to arrive. Mrs.
A. B. Anderson took Mr. Skinner's place as accompanist.

O, George: she exclaimed, as they gazed seaward. "There seems to be ho limit to old ocean's broad expanse And the waves, how they gamble along the shore." "The waves are very fool ish, dear. "How foolish?" To gullible where there is no limit." But not half so foolish as are thousands who dying with consumption are staking their ist chance on this or that remedy which has never yet been known to cure, and refusing to try that which certainly brings them back to life and health—Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. In the earlier stages of this terrible disease it is a positive cure, while even in the last stages it gives great relief aud prolongs life. For weak lungs, spitting of blood, lingering coughs, asthma and kindred ailments, it is a most positive remedy.
