WASHINGTON*, Oct. 6 —The president granted a pardon to A. M. Otis, of Wisconsin, convicted of embezzling money from letters in the mail in February, lS92,'nnd sentenced to five years' imprisonment. The prisoner is in an advanced stage of fatal disease.

Death of ThomuH II. (.'iirmoii, Thomas II. Cannon, of Madison 1 own ship, died yesterday at North Salem, where he had gone on business and where he was taken sick with typhoid fever. His age was 5i years and he leaves a wife ami six grown children, lie was a good citizens and his death is generally deplored.

The grand jury investigation showed that Holloway had no part in the crime. He will bring suit against the railroad company for damages

At midnight George Neorr, who was the proprietor of a saloon at 1!)5 Shelby street, futallv shot his wife in the head, and then went to the house of his son near by and blew out his own brains on the baok porch. Neorr was 00 years old, and married his wife, who was a widow, about one year ago. The woman had protested against the contaminating influence of the saloon on her three little children, and the murder resulted from this quarrel. The three children witnessed the murderous assault on their mother.

He was born in Lincolnshire, and came to this country in 1850. Advertisement has been made for him in this country for some time, and a brother living at Logansport has been Indefatigable in his search for him. Recently a notice fell under his observation and he has forwarded proofs of his identity. He has a wife and two children, and has not written to or heard from his friends in England for twenty years.

ATLANTA, Ga., Oct.. 0.~-Official returns arc not all in. Atkinson (deiri.) runs behind his ticket by about 10,000. The ticket Is elected by ti.1,000 to 30.000. The populists claim fraud and that they have carried the statu. Tho populists will have seven senators and forty members of the house. This will leave the deiilycrats in lull control however, -.'c
