I looked and beheld one coming up from the land of Democracy. And when he opened his mouth lire and brimstone rolled forth against the trustees for the few paltry dollars given to Wabash. I look again and behold I see him sitting in chapel with shaven face and curlcth hair, grasping a scholarship and gazing at Mrs. Coeducation with great satisfaction. And when I know that he payeth two dollars a week for board and room I can't help pointing him out as a model Democrat.
Mr. llrookDhlrr'rt Mo«tlii)
Tin: .loruNAi. is indulging in no campaign lie when it states that Mr. lifookshire's meeiing at Music Hall today is a disappointment to that gentleman's managers. The day opened favorably and Mr. lirookshire had reason to believe that the many weeks of advertising and drumming would be rewarded with one of the largest political audiences in the history of Crawfonlsville. There were no more farmers came to town than usual, however, and after the hand got out and marched and played only a fair audience assembled at Music Hall. It would have been a fair audience for all unknown speaker but for a third term Congressman at his home it was a very, very poor audience. There were plenty of vacant seats both upstairs and down. Mr. lirookshire is still speaking as The .Ku k.nai. goes to press but the "wild bursts of spontaneous enthusiasm'' haven't cracked any walls and the patent medicine man on the court house corner is holding his own. In all honesty Tim JornxAi. believed the lirookshire demonstration would be much greaU'r than it proved. It didn't pau out.
lluuum'rini at Uolloway.
Terre Haute K.r press As yet no indictment lias \eeu returned against Kd Uolloway, but a strong elYort is beinp made in that direction. A lar^e number of eoal miners and citizen from Kontanet have been before tin errand jury during- the past week,-and Deputy Sheriff Parish went up to that place yesterday evening with another batch of summonses. The way some of the witnesses are hustling to avoid coming before the grand jury, gives rise to the hope that the desperate attempt to convict Kd Uolloway may re suit in furnishing a clue which wil lead to the guilty parties, or at least, some of them. It is almost certain that the wreck was not the work of a single man, but was the result of a onspiracy and the apparent uneasi ness. and misstatements of some of th» witnesses and those who are wanted for witnesses is a feature of the inve tigation which the otbcials regard encouraging.

The following recipe, with other suggestions about the management of hogs and other stock, is furnished by S. A. R. Iteach: Take lbs. sulphur. lbs. copperas. 1 lb. black antimony, 1 lb. common salt, lb. salt petre. Have this pulverized thoroughly and mixed, then mix with a like amount of wood ashes: feed with middlings or shorts, or with oats, one quart a day for 100 hogs: feed three days, then cease two days and renew as you see a benefit. This is a good appetizer and preventive. Turpentine mixed with oats is good to feed at times. Also soft soap can be given in moderate quantities, and alternate with the above. Flaee rock salt in all pastures or hog lots and horse troughs so that stock can have a lick at it every day. aud their coats will be smooth and lossy and health will be secured.

An Exciting Chase.
Last night John Carver, of Indiana avenue, was aroused by some one at tempting to effect an entrance through his back door. Seizing a hatchet he made a rush out and pursued the burglar, a burly man, across the commons. Just as he was in striking distance the fellow plunged through a barb wire fence and escaped.
