Hooked Pair of l.inos.
Walter Miller and Frank Miley. a couple of Waynetown beauties, have been arrested for stealing a pair of lines, of the value of one daddy dollar, from Mr. Ariel hoyland. The gentlemen assert that they were under the intluenee of spirituous.malt and vinous liquors at the time of the commission of the theft and really meant no harm. Mr. Miley repines in the fastness of the county jail, however, and will have a chance lo make a blackboard demonstration of his innocency before a jury of his peers. As he :s a poor, dead broke fellow without any plutocratic relatives or friends the court has considerately appointed Crane A Anderson to defend him.

Miss May me Wise resigned her position in the Miils school building yesterday and is now sick. The school she is over is a very large one with fifty-four pupils, some quite unruly and others too large for the grade. Dr. Cowan and Supt. Will Move to Oxford.
Rev. J. T. Hale and family will remove to Oxford, Ohio, this week in order that their daughter may enter the Oxford Seminary, while the sons will enter Miami University. This is only one of many instances where we lose good citizens for lack of co-education in Wabash College.

The Wtibitsli will be out Saturday. The football team will p'ay at Elwood. Sept. 2'.i.
Wynekoop is still unable to play on account of his lame knee. Buchanan has agreed to play two evenings in the week, provided he is excused from gym. drill. He is now a happy papa.
Bloomington Iclvi/lnnic: Foot ball practice will commence at once. Manager Fitzgerald lias discovered some strong material for the team among the new students. Coacher lludleson and Furbert are expected within the next few days. The former will remain throughout the football season while the lMter, who was a half-back in the Ann Arbor team last year, will be here at least a month.
Lafayette ('nil: The athletic fever is high at Wabash, and the fellows down there feel almost as dead sure of carrying off the State championship pennant as though tliev had it in their hands already. Prof. Ilorton, the physical expert of the faculty, who made himself rather obnoxious to everybody else but Wabash-ites last year, is, of course, endeavoring to earn his wages coaching the team, ably assisted by F. W. Ilenninger, the star guard of Ann Arbor. .John Fry, one of the best players on the team, is captain. and C. I). Kern is manager. They have forty men in training, out of which number they will pick their team. Nearly all the old members are back, including Stott and Little, who graduated last year, but can't very wcll be spared from the rush line, and so entered as post graduate students, to play on the football team. There are also, among the forty, a number of new men of great promise. The Wabash people claim the new rules will help them, by doing away, largely, with mass plays: at least, that is what they are banking on.

Ignorance In Mexico.
Says an American business man who has been living in Mexico: "What Mexico most needs is education. The ignorance of the peons Is astonishing. If the great churches of America, which are yearly sending millions of dollars to China and Africa to educate the heathen there, would devote a fair proportion of that money to Moxico far more good would be accomplished. The money would be better spent and results more apparent The few missionaries In that country are doing pood, but their number is not sufficient. Then less theology and more liberal education should bo taught, sectarianism should not interfere with the work. Strange as It may seem, the English tongue has displaced the French as a foreign tongue, and Is rapIdly being learned by the younger natives."
