GEE CRIMES' INJURY.

ll Is Fully liH SuriotiH at. Wits Stute.l V»•.-

vi iI ii

The account of the injury of (fee Grimes as narrated in (yesterday's Jov'knal was correct in all particulars, although but half an hour's time was given to get the matter from the grounds and in type before press time. His injuries are fully as serious as announced and grave fears are still en tertained of his recovery. He was kept on the grounds for an hour yesterday and then removed to the residence of his father, Samuel Grimes, 'J01 west Wabash avenue. lie became semiconscious about 8 o'clock and has been rational at times ever since.

The worst injury, as was stated yesterday, is that at the base of the brain. He is suffering from a severe and dangerous ease of concussion of the brain. Dr. Taylor this morning expressed liiinse If as feeling in nowise sanguine of his recovery.

Mr. Grimes was to have driven four of his horses at Terre Haute next week but all of them were drawn this morning, all his horses that were here being taken overland to his home in Guion.

Tlie Crawfordsville District. Rev. II. M. Middleton, of the Crawfordsville district, reported at the Methodist conference yesterday. The report from this district, in all features, was very encouraging. There have been a great many accessions and conversions. Three new and handsome churches have been built in the district. Lebanon is to have a $25,000 church next year. The Crawfordsville church had (increased in membership from about iioo to 900, and it was recognized that a "swarming" was necessary." Owing to the reluctance of the church to spare any of its members, some difficulty had been experienced in getting the work started, but the movement was now fully under way for a new building, to cost $5,uoo or ?T,0(10, in the west end, to be named Trinity, and which hoped to be reported to the conference as a regular charge next year. This district contains more churches and less stations than any district in the conference. Local preachers are filling the pulpits in several of the charges. Renevolenees have been kept up. although in some places it has been utterly impossible to raise money for any purpose of that nature.

A Gootily Number.

The jail wafc running over full last ght ami the manner :n which the runken and dissolute were piled in was startlingly suggestive of Covington or ancient Sodom. This morning march to the Mayor's court resembled that of Kelsey's army except for the presence of a few Highty females who were nipped in their sins. The usual lines were assessed and the stone pile is new covered with diligent geologists.

Furls at Sullivan.

Sullivan Union: Our people were well pleased with our candidate for Congress, Hon. (Jeo. \V. Faris. who came to town Saturday and was present at the afternoon session of the convention. Mr. Karis made a nice little peech after the work of the convention was finished, which convinced all who had not met him that no mistake was made when he was nominated..

Council Meeting This Kvenlng. The common council will hold a special meeting this evening' to consider the question of the telephone frane'iise ami the Wabash avenue bridge. The meeting will ue at 7 o'clock.

The Good That Rfmiiinii.

How many are thero who are valuing themselves by what they have, and not by what thoy are

Mrs.

I What they may

have be talent, or mone3% or position It matters not what, but it is not tliolr very selves. True worth oannot be separated from a man's real sell Money, position, even intellect, »mav g-o but the sterling, i. o., the moral, worth will remain. A sultan of Morocco is said to have discovered that one of his viziers was beoomlng too powerful. lie therefore summoned lira to ten, and oomplimented him on his great wealth. The vizier becoming vain, boasted of the number of his houses, wives and' slaves, and the sultan rebuked him saying that he was too rich. To show the man exactly what ho was worth, his majesty had him taken by the soldiers to the slave market, where he was put up for sale and received only one bid of eightpenee. All his property was also taken from him. The prloe which we put upon ourselves and our fellow men put upon us are two very different things.

A

Shower of Feather*.

The eminent surgeon. Sir Astley Cooper, was fond of a practical joke On one occasion he aseemlud the church tower of a village in Norfolk taking with him one of his mother's pillows, and finding the wind blowing directly to the next town, he let off litMidfuls of feathers until he had emptied the pillow. The local papers reported this "remarkable shower" of feathers, and offered various conjectures to account for it, and the account was copied into other papers, and was probably received as a perfectly natural occurrence

A Momonton. Proceeding.

In Mr. Montague's "Tales of Nomad" he says that in the old day the Boer seldom used his pen, but when ho did there was a regulnr com motion in the house. "Hush. Be quiet all of you. Drive out the duclis and the geese, and the pigs and tho fowls. Father Is going to write his name And then the old gentleman, with elbows squared on the table, would selzo the pen with a flourish, and putting on a determined look, as if ho were going to tackle an adversary would bend down his head until It nearly touched his left arm, write his name with many a splutter, and then, throwing down the pen and pushing the ohalr, would look round with an air of mingled pride and resignation and wuri ."I have done it."
