ished his junior year at Wabash College by taking his examinations last week, after spending the spring term at home. We have heard that as a student Fred stands at the head of the college.

Georgie Allen was to-day granted a divorce from Charles Allen. Charles was shown up in a pretty bad light and proved to be almost as worthless as stock in the iron bridge saloon where raids are being made three times a week.

Craw fofiUvlIlc'd Young People. The annual convention of the Epworth League of the Crawfordsville. district will convene next Monday evening at the M. E. church, ltev. C. N. Simius, I). D. LL. 1)., will deliver the opening address at 7:30 p. m., which will be followei, by a reception tendered by the Crawfordsville League to the visiting delegates. All young people's societies of the city are most cordially invited to attend all the services and a special invitation is extended to them to be present at the reception on Monday evening. The convention will be in session for three days. Watch this paper for programme of the exercises for the day following. Abovit 100 delegates are expected and an entertaining programme has been arranged.

Yesterday afternoon between the Honrs of three ami six o'clock Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hall and the blisses Hall were at home to the friends of Mr. aud Mrs. Harry Maxwell. Although the reception was informal it was. nevertheless, a delightful afl'air aud the comfort of the guests was assiduously looked after. The residence was prettily adorned and light refreshments were served. The recept'on was largely attended aud proved a most pleasurable social event. Mr. and Mrs. Mavwell leave Monday for Milwaukee.

Charles A. liowers was to-day admitted to practice law at the Montgomery county bar after a thorough course of study in the office of Kennedy & Kennedy. Mr. liowers is one of the best known young men in the county, having been engaged in teaching and journalism before taking up his chosen profession. He is pronounced by P. S. Kennedy to lie one of the finest law students admitted to this bar for along time ami a bright career is expected for him by his friend-.

Overcome by Heat.

Yesterday afternoon Miss Minnie Hrown was overcome by heat on Washington street. She was taken to the Sherman House near by and kept until 7:1)0 o'clock when she was taken home. She apparently grew better until early this morning when she had a relapse and for awhile her death was expected. She is better, however, this afternoon.

If you can only advertise in a small way, pick out the best paper in your territory and spend all of your advertising money in that. Don't scatter. When your business grows and you can spend more money, buy more space in the same paper, until you are using all you profitably can. Then add another paper. I would rather have one good ad than half a dozen poor ones. When "hunting for bear" I would rather take the best gun 1 had and load it properly than to scatter my powder in half a dozen poor guns and so make a "flash in the pan." He Not the Judge.

INDIANAPOLIS, lnd., June —The RIV preme court rendered a decision against County Superintendent F. J. Young In his suit against Olive P. Morgan and other trustees of the school board of the city of Fort Wayne. County Superintendent Young held that the report of the school enumeration of the eity of Fort Wayne was padded and not correct, and refused to forward the enumeration to the statu superintendent of public Instruction. The court holds that the county superintendent Is merely a statutory officer without judicial power, and his duties are ministerial only.

Steel Works Wrecked In a Storm. Ei.woon, lnd., June «B.—A storm swept over the town of Frankton Thursday night, completely wrecking the Quick City iron and steel works, which were partly erected, entailing a loss of 810,000. This is the second tiino the plant has been wrecked by storms. The company, which is composed of Pittsburgh and English capitalists, has not decided whether tu rebuild the plant now or not. Portions of it are scattered all over the surrounding country. The ruin is complete.

Seen In the Clouds.

Col.r.\nius, lnd., June 23.—One of the most beautiful scenes that were ever witnessed by the inhabitants of this part of the state lasted for thirty minutes Friday evening. It was a mirage of some distant city, believed to have been St. Louis, it appeared at an angle of 45 degrees and a little north of west. The streets of the city could easily be seen, as could the church spires and a river.

WABASH, lnd., June 211—The Big Four express, No. 2, was ilred into Friday morning by unknown parties at Fox's station, the shot breaking several windows, but injuring no one. There is no clew to the perpetrators of the outrage, who are believed to be the persons who stoned the passenger train at Fox's a month ago.

LI.KHAHT, lnd., tine'^3.—The OI!II Rybakawski industrial army, numbering mid, which arrived here Thursday night, is still encamped on the outskirts of the city and is in a hungry condition. They will change their route und go up through Michigan, which bus not been traversed by common wealers.

Reception to the Militia.

INIiiANAroi.is, lnd.. June 2.1.—'Two thousand people attended the reception Friday night at the state house in honor of the militia that has been on duty in the mining regions. Speeches were made by Gov. Matthews, Mnj. Denny, President Sloan, of the board of trade, and ex-Gov. Raima.

Ei.woon, Ind.. June 28.—The barn of II. B. Horting, near this city, was destroyed by fire Thursday night, toj gether with its contents, entailing a loss of 37,500 insured for 85.000. The fire is believed to be the work of incendiaries.

Killed In a Quarrel.

Sfi,i.ivaN, Ind., June 28.— George Corey shot and killed Engineer Frey, of the New Pittsburgh Coal & Colie company at Alum Cave late Thursday evening. A quarrel over a girl was the cause of the shooting.
