.lere West ami ^(leorge Harney have entered suit in the circuit court for James C. Long and Ida, his wife, against Matthias France for 5.1.500 on account. It appears that nineteen months ago Long and his wife went to live with Matthias France and wife on the France farm near Ladoga. Mrs. Long isa granddaughter of Mr. France and she and her husband went there at his earnest solicitation. Mrs. France was hopelessly insane and was a most disagreeable person to live with. Unison Frank had left home it being impossible for him to live there. Mr. and Mrs. Long, they allege, had many ditlieulties to contend with until the death of Mrs. France. She was very careless in her person and many revolting particulars are narrated of her conduct. She also required constant nursing and had running gangrene sores. Mr. and Mrs. Long are now preparing to leave Mr. France and as the parties have failed to agree on terms suit is brought for S:i."i00. Mr.
France is quite wealthy ami is said to be worth 8-10,000. -.

While giving place to Mr. Landis'r acceptance of the Republiern miination for Congress inutile Tenth district, the Logansport .hmrnal, one of the ablest Republican papers in that district. referring to the party schism caused by the Hammond convention says that it is a condition and not a theory that confronts them, and, while both gentlemen (meaning Johnson i«nd Landis) have shown themselves to lie aggressive lighters, "the spectacle of Nero fiddling while Rome burned must not be modernized.". The JinirmH also says that there is urgent necessity for the Republicans' of the Tenth district to calmly consider the situation and seek a solution which will insure the success of Republican principles.

ROSIK.,
June 21.—Pope's Leo XIII.'s
jubilee encyclical letter has been approved by a committee of the college of cardinals and will shortly be promulgated. The encyclical expresses grief at the schisms and animosities which have torn flourishing countries from the bosom of the church, and the hope is expressed that Divine pity ami omnipotence will bring them back to the fold. The pope then addressed the eastern churches, recalling.the fact that their ancestors recognized the Roman pontiff, admits that they are well disposed toward Catholics and promises that their rites and patriarchal privileges will be maintained In the event of union with the Roman Catholic church
Ilis holiness then appeals to Protes tants and points out that they have 110 fixed rule of faith or authority, and asserts that many of them even deny the divinity of Christ and the inspira tion of the Scriptures. The encyclical refers to the movement in certain countries against the church, enjoining Catholics to shake ofl sloth in view- of this hostility and to submit entirely to the tutelage of the church. His holiness condemns the free masons, claiming that they are the enemies of religious unity anil especially denounces their so-called audacious activity in Rome. Fur ther, he calls upon Italy and France to shake off the despotism free masonry in order that religious concord may exorcise the evils of war holding that Europe presents the ap pen ranee rather than the reality of peae- and that education in husbandry, tIKS arts and commerce is seriously menaced.
