A MARVELOUS EXHIBITION.
A Wondor of Ing«'iiiouH McclmnUm That Should l!o Seen By All.
It is not often that Tin: JorttNAi. gives special attention to exhibitions eharging admission. Its advertising columns are usually deemed ftutHcicnt, hut the wonderful art works now progressing at the V. M. C. A. building, west Main street, merits sincere admiration, and it if this newspaper's duty to call the attention of our best people to it. 1 he artistic display of the perfect mechanism and wonderful combination of motion, and the various cabinets of automatic action will surely please all from the child of tender years to those whose locks are grav.
These extraordinary products of artwere wrought out by Joseph Herrmann. the great Herman inventor, and represents seventeen years of patient labor. The motive power is mysterious to the casual observer, but it is water and weight. The Swiss Village scenes represents life in a village and all the (piaint pursuits of the dwellers in an humble Herman hamlet are depicted in picturesque and simnltanious activity.

There is a beautiful blending of colors and tin- silent accuracy of motion attracts. lint it is not the panoramic benutv 'I IIK .I01 UN t, wishes to emphasize, nor is any detailed description attempted. 'J he essential merit, the over-capping attractions are the mechanical effects produced. It is an application in the science of mechanics that everybody should see. The exhibition will remain in Crawfordsville only a few lays. Don't miss it.

A Itig Storm.
Crawfordsville had a heavy rain yesterdav but it wasn't a circumstance to that, wlucli fell down about Waveland and l'.rown's Valley. Just north of Waveland several clouds came together and for awhile are said to have fair ly whirled and boiled, discharging great volumes of"water upon the lipids below and scaring many people badly by a cyclonic demonstration. The small creeks were made rivers in a few minutes and rushed along tilled with debris of all kinds. Considerable damage is reported.

llie rain yesterday afternoon passed away before evening and left the air deliciously cool and refreshing. This feature contributed greatly to the sueess of the levee of President Ktirouglis and wife and Dr. Tuttle and wife at Yandes Library Hall. There were very pretty decorations for the occasion and the large hall lighted up presented a brilliant and beautiful scene. The receiving occurred in the trustees' room and large numbers called during the evening, making the affair as great a success as could lie wished for. Montani's Italian orchestra was present and furnished delightful music throughout the evening. There were many strangers present and all visitors could but have been tnpressed with the truly hospitable and cultured air which pervaded the entire affair.
Last evening, at their elegant home on west Wabash avenue, Capt. and Mrs. W. I'. Herron most charmingly entertained tlie members of Beta Theta Pi and their lady friends. The rooms had been artistically adorned with bowls of beautiful June llowers and the lights were shaded in the fraternity colors, pink and blue. About twenty-five couples were present and enjoyed the hospitality of the home until quite a late hour. Prof. lOddie Urandkamp presided at the piano and dancing was one of the principal imusements of the evening, elegant dance programmes in fraternity colors being provided the guests. An elaboate collation was served in the dinng room and the affair proved a brilliant successin all particulars.
CommandarleR From IndianapoliM Coming Indianapolis Journal: The three Indianapolis commandariesof Knights of St. John and the Webber Zouaves will go to Crawfordsville o» July 4 to participate in a big demonstration to be given by the Catholic societies of that city. The arrangements were last night completed by W. C. Murphy and John Drury, of Crawfordsville, who have the matter in hand.
The prospects for the celebration here on the Fourth are most flattering. Resides the companies mentioned above several others from out of town will participate. The Webber Zouaves are the crack company in the State and have one hundred and seventy different military movements. They will give two drills at the fair grounds, one in the forenoon and one after dinner In the morning at 10 o'clock a grand street parade will occur in which several hundred in uniforms will participate.

PRACTICAL PHILANTHROPY.*
H.w Mr. ChltrlH Treated a Worn-Out fell), ployr. This incident has been related of Mr. Childs, and I believe it has never been printed, says a writer in the New York Press. Stopping one of his head employes one day Mr. Childs said: "You are not looking well. I think you must be working too hard." "I am not feeling very well, Mr. Childs, that is a fact," was the answer, "but I guess I will be all right in a short time." "How would you like to take a trip to Europe?" said Mr. Childs, smiling pleasantly. "Well enough, sir," was the response "but I cannot afford it." "You can afford it," said Mr. Childs, taking him by the arm, "if I pajT your expenses and pay your salary to your family while you are gone, can't you?"
The result was the man spent two months in Europe, and returned completely restored to health. "That was one of the best investments 1 ever made," chuckled Mr. Childs, when the matter was called to his attention. "Why, Mr. returned BO much improved in health that he could do twice as much work as he could before ho left. You see I was tho real gainer by the transaction." One of Mr. Childs' characteristics was that he never seemed to take any credit to himself for doing a kind act.
rroullBrltles of a Toad.
Force a toad's mouth open and hold It in that position and he will suffocate. This is because ho has no ribs and no way of dilating his chest, therefore must literally swallow air as though it were food. Forcibly keeping tho creature's mouth opeu causes the air to pass Into tho stomach instead of the lung. Another oddity is its tongue, which is hung In tho mouth, just the reverse of tho human tongue, being attached at the front of the jaw, tho loose end hanging back and down the throat. gioo Itcvrard, »(•).
The reader of this paper will be pleased to learn that there is at least one dreaded disease that science has been able to cure in all its stages, and that is Catarrh. Mall's Catarrh Cure is the only positive cure known to the medical fraternity. Catarrh being a constitution disease, requires a constituional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure is taken internally, acting directly on the blood and niveous surfaces of tlie system, thereby destroying 4,he foundation of the disease, and giving the patient strength by building up the constitution and assisting nature in doing its work. The proprietors have so much faith in its curative powers, that they offer One Hundred Dollars for any case that it fails to cure. Send for list of testimonial^.
