The closing scene of the high school commencement was enacted last even-
The hop was a signal success and its management is to be congratulated. The floor was in excellent condition and the music by the Music llall orchestra was inspiration itself. The floor was not too crowded to interfere with the pleasure and comfort of dancing and all went merry as the traditional marriage bell. There was a large number of spectators in the gallery and others around the walls of the room not dancing. The evening was not so warm as is usual upon such occasions so all enjoyed themselves The popular amusement was continued until after 1 o'clock when the guests adjourned voting the affair one of the most pleasant and successful character
As Seen by a Victim.
Said a well known barber this morning: "I understand that the prose cutor and grand jury are after tin barbers, cigar makers and bar keepers for playing base ball on Sunday. They could be. doing a good many other things of more protit to the community. For instance they could indict the preachers for assault and battery on each others characters. We have to work six days in the week and when we play ball it is for needed and healthful exercise. We don't disturb anyone for we go away off in the couutry. I reckon though we can suffer in a righteous cause if called on

A Trjlng Ordeal.
A graduate of a theolog-ical seminary In one of the eastern states says that In that institution the candidates for the ministry were obliged to undergo a very trying- ordeal. Each of them was oompelled to preacli a short extempore sermon, In the chapel, to tlie bishop and one of the professors, who formed the sole congregation, and who occasionally interrupted and criticised the sermon. One day a candidate, a young man hardly out of his teens, who was by no means a ready speaker, overwhelmed by nervousness, began stammering: "I will divide my congregation into two—the converted and the unconverted." This was toe much for the bishop's sense of humor. "I think, sir," he exclaimed, "that as there are only two of us, you had better say which is which."
Coyote Versus Kaffle.
While walking the flats near Portland, Ore., early one morning a traveler witnessed an exciting fight between an eagle and a coyote. The eagle had caught a rabbit, and the coyote, appearing upon the sceno about that time, undertook to take it away. The man made up his mind at once that the eagle would tear the coyote to pieces, but to his surprise the coyote got away with the rabbit, and so demoralized the eagle that the kingly bird had all it could do to flop feebly away.

The increased cultivation of poppy in various parts of Europe has, it is said, led to a marked growth in the per centage of opium contained in honey, the properties of which are much influenced by tlio flowers from which the bees gather it. This is nothing new, for Xenophon relates that his soldiers were intoxicated by eating Trebizond honey, extracted presumably from the popples which abound in that region.

ing and the affair, or rather all'airs. were both brilliant and successful. The evening's entertainment began with a reception in the parlors of the Y. M. C. A. building. The rooms had been handsomely decorated and presented a pretty spectacle especially when filled with the elegantly dressed people who swarmed them throughout the evening. The costumes of the ladies were superb and a more exquisitely dressed assemblage never gathered in Crawfordsvillc. At the reception there were about four hundred person's and the Ben II ur orchestra furnished the sweetest of music throughout the entire evening. In the armory artistically decorated tables had been spread and here a choice collation was served the guests of '01. Shortly after il about one hundred couples adjourned to the 1'. O. S. of A. armory where the hop was held but ibout half the reception guests remained at the Y. RK C. A. where the entertainment was continued until near midnight, the time being very delightfully passed.
