Complimentary to Frank Seaman. The Department of Tennessee, G. A. R., has just closed its annual session at Greenville. The report of the committee on the Department Commander's address submitted the following which was adopted by a rising vote: "Your committee to whom was referred the matter of Department Commander Seaman's annual address send to the encampmeut this day report that they have examined said address and iind it to be one of surpassing interest, containing valuable suggestions and recommendations, worthy of our earnest and careful consideration. In this connection it seems proper to speak of the valuable services rendered by Commander Seaman to this department. He now retires after four years of service, first as assistant adjutant-general in the years 18S8-'8t): as a member of the National Council of Administration in 1889, when he succeeded in having canceled a claim held for years against the department for 842f: in 1SU2 he again served as adjutant-general under Commander Whitaker, and for the year now closing as department commander. "Resolved, That the thanks of the encampment are hereby extended to Commander Seaman for the fidelity and zeal with which he has discharged his official duties, and on behalf of the comrades of the department of Tennessee, we join in wishing him long life, with plenty of the sunshine of peace and prosperity. "The committee recommend that the encampment present the retiring commander with a suitable souvenir, under the direction of the incoming council of the administration.
The souvenir referred to above consists of a very handsome tea set. On the largest pieces were the following neatly inscribed words:
TO
FRANK SEAMAN* CO-MMAXIIKlt
IIRPAKTMKXT OF TKVNlSKi: G. A. R. KltOM THK
OFFICIAL STAFF -March 21st, ISM.
The inscription tells the story, though the modest now past grand commander had failed to notify the public about it.
Each piece of the set lias a beautiful initial letter S inscribed on it, and no doubt the old vet was highly pleased with this testimonal of esteem entertained for him bv his staff.
Y' YVuyiiotowii Ki'iniblfcnne Saturday, long before the tune set for the Republican township convention, tlie streets were thronging with enthusiastic Republicans. The young, the aged, and infirm were out, wayward Republicans returned and even a few weary and disheartened Democrats, guided by the stars and stripes, which were unfurled by Chairman Kline, found their way to the headquarters. There they lingered, wishing to hear words of comfort and the promise of better times in the future.
At 2 o'clock the convention room was filled and Chairman Kline called the meeting to order. On motion of Capt. Hillings Mr. Kline was made chairman of tlie meeting. A contest arose as to who should go as delegate to the State convention. However, it was amicably and satisfactorily settled by the selection.of N. H. Couberly. Robert Raker was then chosen as alternate. R. Kline and A. N. Hamilton were choseil delegates to the Congressional convention. and Geo. Runion and liert Harvey delegates to the Joint Representative convention. After transacting some minor business the convention adjourned, believing that with A. H. Anderson nominated for Congress and Capt. H. M. Billings for Representative, Wayne township would contribute her share toward rolling up two hundred Republican majority in this county next fall. I. ED CORY'S LATEST.
He Goes North Yesterday aud Eikjoyn An Kxclttng Day of It.
A special from Logan sport says: A fight was arranged last week between Ed Cory, the Crawfordsvilie champion, and Johnny Bailey, alias "Pompadour Bill," a colored pugilist, who has made Logansport his home for the past few days. This morning the tip was quietly given, and when the Vandalia train from Crawfordsville pulled in about one hundred sports boarded it. The party got off twentytwo miles north of this city, near Bruce's lake, in Fulton county, and preparations were made for the tight. The fight lasted four minutes and a half, Cory being knocked down repeatedly and claiming foul, which was not allowed. On the way back to Logansport the sheriff and deputy of Fulton county were on the train with an insane patient for the Logansport hospital, and. hearing the talk, attempted to capture the principals, and a terrible scuffle ensued, the crowd blocking the aisles and preventing the sheriff from getting at the chiefs. The sheriff and his deputy were forced into the middle of the car, and the two principals were let out at the door. At the first station they got on the front end of the baggage car and when the train slowed up in Logansport they jumped and ran. The crowd kept the officers until the station was reached, when they sought the aid of the police. The principals were spotted but had four" blocks the start of the posse of police, detectives, constables, sheriffs and deputies. An exciting footrace followed, but at last reports the whole outfit was moving east at a rapid gait, with the prizefighters gaining."
A traveling man from Logansport stated here to-day that Cory was given a very rough deal at the ringside and would have won in a fair fight. He was not in proper training however and had no business to enter the ring the condition he was. The fight broke up in a row. Cory refusing to go on when his claim of foul was unheeded. He still expects to meet Marvin, of Grape Creek, May 1 and will then be in trim.
Mwljenka In Macbeth.
Modjeska appeared at Music Hall la:.t evening in Macbeth and presented what was undoubtedly the star attraction of the season. The intense tragedy was powerfully delineated by the Polish countess and her superb company of players. The special scenery was fine and interest was not suffered to flag for an instant.
The audience was a large and cultured one, the entire seating capacity of the house being taken and those present were highly pleased with the presentation of Shakespeare's most thrilling tragedy. There were many persons from out of the city present and several local theater parties. Among those present from out of town were: II. J. Gartner, Mrs. Uoord, Miss Ruth Boord, the Misses lvicfer, MissM. McMalion, of Covington:. J. E. Lidekay and wife and Mrs. Dr. Wilson, of Ladoga: Charles Rosteller and lady, of Veedersburg: B. G. Perkins and wife, of Linden, Mrs. A. D. and»Fred Sumner, of Ilillsboro, J. P. Porter, Wilmina Wallace, H. E. Lucas, Ollie Armstrong and Oliver Frazer, A'eedersburg.
A Distressing Aecldent.
On Monday evening" Albert Youell, a well known farmer on the Wea north of Crawfordsville, met his death in a peculiar manner. The house of a tenant was burned down, leaving the chimneys standing. Mr. Youell approached the ruins aud was quite near when one of these large chimneys fell upon liim. His skull was frightfully crushed and death was instantaneous. Mr. Youell was 32 years of age and was one of the most promint young men in the Wea neighborhood.

Of Hood's Sarsaparilla Is due to the tremendous amount of brain work and constant care used in its preparation. Try one bottle and you will be convinced of its superiority. It purifies the blood which, the source of health, cures dyspepsia, overcomes sick head aches and biliousness. It is just the medicine for you.
HOOD'S Pir.i.s are purely vegetable, carefully prepared from the best ingredients.
TUB usual treatment of catarrh is very unsatisfactory, as thousands can testifj'. Proper local treatment is positively necessary to success, but many, if not most, of the remedies in general use afford but temporary relief. A cure certainly cannot be expected from snuffs, powders, douches and washes. Ely's Cream Balm, which is so highly commended, is a remedy which combines the important reqnisities of quick action, specillc curative power, with perfect safety and pleasantness to the patient. The druggists all sell it.
