The Graveyard Squabble.
Special Correspondence of Tiio Journal. Daiiungton, March 21.—The night March 21, ISO-), in Darlington was a ight long to be remembered. At just seventeen minutes past S o'clock p. m. mighty roar was heard iu the west nd. Men and women rushed to their doors, babies were left screaming in their cribs, dogs banked and the cat didn't come back. Out of the tumult ushed a man whose sirname is W. I!.
Lynch, crying Berry man! Berryman! where art thou! The Odd Fellows have sold a lot in the cemetery and Matt Yearing is now digging a grave thereon." About this time Berrvman came ushing with open ai%is. They embraced and wept a great weep for the sins of tlie order. They soon dried their tears and divided themselves into squads of six each, one going north, one south, one east and another west, iu search of not that which was lost, but the trustees of the town—and it snowed. Now our trustees are never hard to find and soon there was a mighty rush for town headquarters and in about seven minutes a called meeting of the Hoard was in good running order oiled for the occasion and a mighty order was promulgated and spread on the minutes, delegating the said Lynch to go to Crawfordsville. have the court send the sheriff and if lie thought best bring Co. 1 with him. as these Odd Fellows were mighty and might prevail—and the sun shone brightly. The business for which the meeting had been called was over, board adjourned—sun shone beautifully. Now about this -111110 said Her yman had a thought (lie is subject to tliem) and asked the question where was this grave being dug. Each in his turn answered "I don't Know"'—and the sun was hidden. Then a great silence, fell upon the crowd, broken only by a slight cough from Lynch (lie too is subject to them). Now as Herryman is the health officer of the town lie looks after the morals as well and the thought struck him before they swore out too many warrants they had probably better find out whether the said grave was being dug in the cemetery or in Wash Bowman's pasture ad joining. Accordingly Herryman.
Lynch and the board started for the cemetery. Jim Shannon being an old Colonel was chosen as leader. They marched boldly until they came to the fence surrounding the cemetery Lynch took from his pocket a tapeliue lie was now going to be very correct as to distance. He in vain offered the front end of that tapeline first to Berryman, but he declined, as there were strict laws against doctors being cemeteries after niglit. That let Dr Wilson off' also. Bill Campbell was called across the road to see his race track and Jim Shannon said lie did not have to. so. as a last resort, Tom Campbell took the business end of the line and started. When they returned (and that was in just HO seconds from the time tliuy left) Herryman asked Tom if he was sure he found the grave. Tom answered, "Oh yes, 1 had my hands on the cotfin: I am not afraid of spooks Then silence fell hard. "Why." said Shannon, "that's the tool house."—and it snowed. About this time a couple of small boys were delegated to find •the grave in consideration of a ticket to DeCaux Tilney's lecture, and upon the return of Bill Campbell who said he would swear that it was not in the Bowman pasture and as the boys reported either an open grave or well they were not sure which Lynch was again delegated to go to court but not until the darkness had vanished from off the face of the earth in sutlieient quantities for him to venture around liis wood pile and see for himself. And when the light eunie and he climbed over that wood pile the grave was seen to be in the old part. Hut as the town was to pay all expenses Lynch did not miss the trip—and the cat came back.

The young ladies of the V. 1*. S. C. E. fairly went wild over the report that they had spent much of their time in mashing while attending the Crawfordsville convention. l.ast Sunday night they passed two columns of resolutions deploring the fact that the Ladoga paper had mentioned the rumor. They didn't mention, however, in those resolutions anything about Messrs. Hencli and Ireland, whom they met here and who followed them to Ladoga.

tli« A. 11. Kncatupiikeiit. Never in the history of the State of Indiana has there been such au immense gathering of the people as will be at the State Encampment of the ti. A. R.. April 4th and Oth at Lafayett^. Ind. The preparations are all on a grand scale. The triumph arch at headquarters, corner Fifth and Main streets, will eclipse in beauty and grandeur anything that has ever been attempted in this State. It will extend from curb to curb, in form semicircle, twenty-live feet high. The words on it will be: "Welcome (J. A. R. Welcome." The words "Welcome" are made on wire frames donated by the Barbee Wire. Works Company, aud these filled in with evergreens, a gift by Fred Dorner. These letters will be filled by over 100 electric lights. The letter has 21 lights in red: the letter i\ has 27 lights in white, the letter has 27 lights in blue. On the top of it is a shield on which are 111 stars and 13 lights in blue representing the III original States. On the same shield are 34 white and 34 red lights. This a.reli is the same on both sides and lias a grand total of 125 cleetriet lights in all. This is the work of Mr. .1. S. Hill, the gentlemanly and popular superintendent of the electric street railway company, who furnish this light gratuitously. It will be in position and lighted £he nights of April 3, -I and .1. The court house will be also decorated as never before—bunting, flags and evergreens in great profusion. The Lafayette
Electric Light Company will light the four fronts with arc lights free of expense. The fireworks will Vie without parallel iu the State and will be witnessed by not less than 100,000 or more people. The parade will be from one and a lialf to two and a half miles long and in column from curb to curb. Music everywhere and every place. The decorations of stores and houses will be indescribable. Everybody will hang out flags and will wear flags. We say to the citizens of Indiana come and enjoy this and show your loyalty to the greatest Hag on earth—the American flag.

There is in the play of Macbeth, which Modjeska produces at Music Hall on the 27th, a line uttered as the evening shadows begin to gather on the day of Hanquo's murder, which we may repeat to ourselves as the model of the entire tragedy, "Good things of the day begin to droop and browse It is the tragedy of the twilight and the setting in of thick darkness upon :i human soul. Macbeth is the prey of a profound world-weariness. When the play opens the sun is already drooping below the verge, and at sunset strange winds arise, and gather the clouds to windward with mysterious pause and stir, so that the [.lay of Macbeth opens with the movement of mysterious and spiritual powers. The witches of Macbeth are not. the broomstick witches of vulgar popular tradition. If they arc grotesque, they are also sublime they are entitled to take their place beside the terrible old women who spin the destinies of men. Modjeska will bring lier full New York production, and no pains will be spared to make her coming the event of the sea son.

Last year that factory made about 6,000,000 pounds of granulated sugar.
