The iron bridge jaloon has been shut up until after Lent and the genial presiding spirits, Mr. Jim Stephenson and bride, are visiting Sheriff Davis. The visit while not exactly voluntaryis not exactly to be a fly one either. On last Monday Charley Barnett and a gang of young toughs with whom the illustrious Charles delegates to train, went down lo the iron bridge saloon and spent a delightful season with Mr. and Mi's. Stephenson. There are no cleverer people on earth than these Stephensons so. of -course, the boys found it hard to break away. Especally was this true from the fact thai ames had inaugurated a cut rate on the price of beer and was selling it for seven cents a quart. While the keg listed merriment ran high anil Mrs. im gracefully tendered each of the lads a motherly kiss as they left for town while Jim went as far as the bridge to see they didn't fall in the creek. Unfortunately young Harnett was arrested for intoxication and tearfully told Sirs. Barnett all about it. Mrs. Barnett had Stephenson aud his wife arrested and the trial occurred this morning. Mayor liandel found the worthy couple guilty aud sent Jim to jail for thirty-six days and Mrs. Jim for thirty-nine days. That, is why the iron-bridge saloon is closed. There are spirits there but the. pre-idiug spirits are in jail.'

Superintendent. Iteetl States That There Will Be Ko Increase In the Wwter Items.

For several days there have been rumors current that on April 1 the Water it Light Company would increase the water rents. THE JOUBJJAI. called upon A. S. Reed, the local superintendent, this morning aud interrogated him in regard to the report.

There will be no increase," said Mr. Reed, "but there will be equalization in water rents. I am now awaiting specific orders from headquarters and so can only speak in general terms at present, but can say there will be no ncrease placed upon those who are now paying ordinance rates. Then are some who are not and never have, These will be obliged to come up to the mark which others have been toeing from the first. This is only just and fair. They were allowed special rates in the beginning and manager after manager let them slip through while others were forced to pay ordinance rates. I think everyone pays the ordinance rate for lawn hydrants so there will be no increase there for anybody. Where the increase will be is on water for domestic purposes. The ordinance allows us to charge S for a faucet in a house of live rooms and SI additional for each room over five.

Thus the rate for a faucet in a house of ten rooms would be Sll at ordinance rates. Each faucet over one costs 82 a year whether the house has one room or twenty. It appears that not half of those persons using water for domes tic purposes pay ordinance rates. In houses of ten or a dozen rooms the rate for a five room house is maintained This is not fair to those who are paying the ordinance rates and the Company proposes to see to it that all are treated alike. I believe the ordinance is considered a fair one and nobody can object to the rate. "Meters will be placed on a number of basinesshouses and shops where it is hard to regulate the water consumption by the specifications of the city ordinance. There need be no fear on this score, however, as tlio. meter ois generally of advantage to the consumer and has the tendency almost invariably to cut down the water rental. When I receive sppcific information from headquarters 1 shall let you know.

tiua Trultt Immortalized.

Ous Truitt was surprised to find that lie had been immortalized by having his picture in World's Fair views, in No. 5 of THE Joru.swi. Art Portfolios appears the picture of 0us and his wife as they stand in the crowd in front of the Moorish palace. Gus is standing with his hands in his pantaloon pockets and his wife is by his side. Their presence in the group was discovered by Mr. Truitt's little niece, and to make sure of its identity Mr. Truitt put the picture under a reading glass. This brought out the pictures jjerfectly, revealing even the K. of 1*. button he was wearing on his overcoat at the time. The Art Portfolios used by TIIK JOURNAL are distributed by the hundreds of thousands all over the country and the pictures of (Jus Truitt and wife are immortalized with those of the Moorish palace.
