Sah? of the BLiford Ithx-k. esterday afternoon C. M. Crawford purchased of Mrs. E. A. Uinford and sons the "liinford Block" property on the northeast corner of Main and (.•reen streets. The property is -SO v. by 111.*i feet and extends as far north as the alley and as far east as the building occupied hy Joe Taylor. The price paid was §13.500. There were several other parties after the property which is most desirable. Mr. Ciawford has not yet dceided just what improvements he will make. At present he will leave it as it is as the present tenants make the property pay good interests on the capital invested.

CROWN POINT, Ind, March 8.—The Lake county grand jury that was drawn a week ago Monday to investigate the Koby race track and pool selling at that resort, and lnstructcd at the time they were drawn that It would not be necessary for them to visit that resort, but to summon witnesses before them to give testimony upon the subject, visited the resort Tuesday, accompanied by Sheriff Frederick, and accepted the hospitality of the management. When they came before Judge (iillett Wednesday morning, shortly after he had read a Chicago paper containing an account of their visit, his honor was wrathy and gave them a severe roasting.

Say Chicago Authorities Are Lax. INDIANAPOLIS. Ind., March 8.—There is considerable speculation here regarding the real result of the visit of members of the state board of health to Chicago and it is said iu medical circles that the reticence of the board is caused by a desire that

It is stated that the committee found'a laxity in dealing with smallpox in Chicago which astonished thein and that a member of the board will visit that city from time to time, and if the suggestions made last week are not acted upon by the Illinois authorities the threatened system of inspection oi trains leaving Chicago will be enforced.
