MONTANA LETTER.
Mr. Kellison Tells of Bear Moat, Venison and Uold Weather 111 tda West. TlitllU Kllltor 1 UK JOUUNAI..
OIIEAT FALIJH, Montaiin, Dec. 4, 1893. You are lo be congratulated in securing so many able and faithful county correspondents. It appears that an excorrespondent could not now obtain a hearing. It would prove an interesting scene to a Hoosier to stroll down the streets of our Cataract city these dBys. There are more deer and antelope and jack rabbits hanging in the show windows of the meat markets than there are hugs. Pork is rnoro of a luxury, moie oostly, than veuieon. But strange as it may be,we seldom Und baiir meat on our bill of fare, though I opine there are lis many of Mr. Bruin's family to ap.iro aa auv of his more Heel neighbors. Loin of bear makes a superb dish, bnt there saems to be a mutual sympathy existing between the "tenderfoot" hunter and the peacefnl bear which fact ban des lined the latter lo a prolific and pro onged life.
Last week the wolves chased a colt out of the field into the barnyard of Mr. Uealy at Bun River and killed it. About the same night a mountain lion scared nearly all the dogs in the town of Augusta into their kennels, a ball from Levi T. Morgan's Winchester finally sending him in bloody retreat. Yet, as a rule these ferocious animals are well ted on range stock and I never heard of oue attacking a man, woman or child, with but one exoeption. The Mitsuulian, published in Missoula county to the west, gives an account of a bear taking a child from under its mother's eyee and leaving the helpless and distracted mother to untold agony. All that could be found by the sorrow stricken father were the little crimsoned garments.
You wisely caution your correspon dents to not itemize the weather, but us 1 am not eligible to prize winning neilh er am I to restrictions. Last Tuesday the thermometer fell twelve degrees in five minutes by the watch, followed by a drop of forty-five degrees in twenty minutes. Then on Friday came that queen of the breezes, the ohinook from the Pacific coast, and the mercury rose as rapidly as it had fallen. The joke ime upon Frank P. Atkinson, president of the Cascade bank, hand in hand with the chinook. He had gone lo the mountains in a Bleigh, and fine sleighing it was in the forenoon, but the snow dia appeared at the command of the chinook lasting no longer than a dew drop at noontime in summer. Mr. Atkinson and his sleigh were hauled in distance thirty miles.
Some Hoosiers seem to think that all the vacant or public land is taken up in this State. The Missoulian gives an account of a hunting party going out from Missoula, at which place there is a fort and a portion of the U. S. Army, The commanding officer's Bon was in the party and they got lost in a blizzard and wandered round till found by a party of searching soldiers. Xhey were found ISO miles from any settlement. Think of ill LoBt 150 miles from a houee with a lamp in its window. The cook per ished in the snow storm. Yours for free coinage, A. T. KELLISON.

Again on the Oannins Factory Interest. As this question has been before the pnblio for some time let un keep the ball rolling until something definite can be accomplished to give shape to a company or organization that may establish first class canning factory in Crawfordsville. Aud if such a thing can be done, Montgomery county may be sure of an income of one hundred thousand dollars a year. It is an assured fuel that the canning factorieb throughout the country cannot supply the full demand of the market, that a good brand of sunning goods is no drRg and that the jobbers are now placing their orders a year ahead. So where there is a demund that is the thing to do, these hard times, and then it is a business that will help everybody, bolh in town and country. The farmer cannot turn his ground to a more prolituble use than raising products to eripply canning factory for from sixty to one hundred and two hundred dollars may be realized trom one acre of grouud.

well manoged ^factory it will bring into cultivation one thousand or fifteen hundred acres of land. Why not tlu-n wake up to such an interest as thut} And as it has been suggested already, if such an enterprise is undertaken lit us take due precaution as to how we should do it. We don't want any speculating firm to involve as into the parchasing of a plant just for the monev that is in it to them and then l^ave us .in the hole. What we want iB man or men who can run the business, build it np from the start, taking a personal interest in the welfare of the institution. And then the machinery and fixtures can be obtained in the market which is most competitive these times. No, it in the experience and practical knowledge we want at the foundation, and then build thereon. It is the opinion of the writer that this enterprise, so important, should b? looked after, and that soon and get the business underway for work this next year. Let ns have action.

Mr. J. P. Blaize, an extensive real estate dealer in Des Moines, Iowa, narrowly escaped one of the severes attacks of pneumonia while in the northern part of that State during a recent blizzard, says the Saturday Review. Mr. Blaize had occasion to drive several miles during the storm and was so thoroughly ohilled that be was unable to get warm, and inside of an hour after his return he was threatened with a severe case of pneumonia or lung fever. Mr. Blaize sent to the nearest drug store and got a bottle of Chamberlain's Oongh Remedy, of which he had so often heard, and took a number of large doBes. He says the effect was wonderful and in a short time he was breathing quite easily. Ue kept on tukingtbe medicine and the next day was able to oome to Des Moine*.
