The Sheriff's Wrong.
Tuesday, Sheriff Emmett submitted his first annual report to the countv commissioners, and, if figures do not lie, the fee and salary bill has made a cruel victim of him. Former sheriffs have made from 810,000 to 813,000 annually out of the office but the present incumbent has made just a little over 82,200 during the past year. The fee and salary law passed by the late legislature, which was declared unconstitutionel by the lower conrt and which is now pending before the Supreme Court, was immediately made operative as regards the offices of Sheriff and Recorder.—Indianapolis Sun.
According to the same ratio Sheriff Davis will make about 8250 a year out of his office.

At the latter place he spoke last SUUJHY afternoon and evening and each time the immse hall was packed. The lectures in this city will be free to al' and a cordial invitation is extended to all to come and hear these patriotic subjects disouesed in a fair and square manner. The Indianapolis Sentinel, a Democratic paper, speaking against the leoture itself, says of Prof. Sims in its issue last Monday u.orning: "Mr. Sims' most brilliant period was his eloquent appeal to all true Americans to organize against the common enemy now, and not to wait until they fouud themselves under the rule of the Human Catholic tyrants, and until the inquisition had been against instituted." It further goes on and states that he is a "most eloquent speaker, and receivixl extravagant applause."
The Journal of the same date in speaking of the lectures and the speaker, preludes a column writeup of the former by the following: "Aside from an eloquent tougue the speaker possesses a considerable store of drv sal ire which provoked much mirth in the audience during the afternoon."
All should oome out and hear the famous speaker from Michigan, ns all seats are free. At Y.M.O.A. hull Saturday and nday evenings.

Mr. Hulett is here for an office, jbnt what it is he wants is not msde public.
