They ain't no fire up here! We've only lit the gas. Wind up the hose!"

THE 0LA.SH OF TiiE OObEMANB,
Mrs. Cordelia Ooleman Accused of Alt Sorts of Wicked aud Malicious Uussodness. A very sensational ond spicy damage suit has been filed in the circuit court by Wm. Coleman, of Boone county, whioh looms up among the more prosy oases like a Syrian sunset in a London fog. Mr. Coleman through Crane & Anderson, his attorneys, demands 32,500 damages from Cordelia Coleman, who was his wedded wife until the deoree ot divorce did them part. This was several moons ago and the trial took place in Lebanon. Mr. Coleman got the custody ot the juvenile Colemane, much to the disgust of coy Cordelia. Cordelia liveB in Sugar Creek townqhip and her ex-partner just over the line in the State ot Boone. They were neighbors but the chasm between them socially was as wide as that between the A. P. A.'s and the Catholics. Billy always whistled
The Gal with a Wheel in Her.Head" when he drove past Cordelia's place and when Bhe went past Billy's plaoe she always talked about "dangerous vaga bonds" and "lazy louts." It was na'.i for the old ladies prone to gossip and the lire ot hatred in their hearts was not permitted to smolder for want ot fuel. It wasn't so very long atter the divorce that Billy's barn took fire and $600 went up in smoke or fell in ashes. ^Jot so very long after this his dwelling house mysteriously took fire and 8700 more went the way of the unrighteous in the future life. Pretty soon after this his new barn took fire and burned and with it some horses and other stock. This woe very disguetiDg to be sure and Billy felt as sad as unleavened bread when he awoke one fine morning a short time after and discovered that eighty head ot fat hogs had been wantonly poisoned by some evil person. He felt sadder still when soon after some one entered his shed and chopped his elegant new buggy to piects with a sharp hatchet. The climax of meanness was reaohed, however, when Coleman's per secutor entered his hen house one night and deliberately wrung the necks of fifty chickens, young, old and middle aged. The baldheaded old rooster of fifteen summers met the fate of the chirping chick of fifteen days. The heads were thrown in one pile and the bodies in another and were cold and stark when the ohill morning dawned.
About this time Mrs. Coleman had a dispute with some of her former intimate friends and they going to Mr. Coleman declared that she had been the authoress of all his trouble. She had told them so and they had other proof beside. ThiB was all Coleman wanted so he came oapering into town the other day like a cannibal captain at the obsequies of a well buked missionary, and insituted proceedings. He wants $2,500 damages and wants it quickly. Cordelia owns a good farm and is worth the money. The proceedings in this novel suit will be watched with interest.

Judge Gavin in bis decision says: "When a party is subpoenaed as a witness in a oause and in response to a question said in good faith that the character of a witness for truth was bad, money paid to each witness or his father to avoid criminal prosecution threatened by them on aconunt of such testimony, the witness being inexperienced in business, mattere, ot weak and little education, may be recovered back without demand."
