family Dinner.

Some forty gueets were entertained royally by Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Swank at dinner yesterday. Among the gnests from abroad were Dr. J. R. Utter and family, of Xenia, Ohio Prof. J. F. Utter, county superintendent at Bedwood, California Prof. O. L. Utter, of Baker University, Baldwin, Douglass oounty, Kansas Mrs. James Albertson, of Republic City, Kansas, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Wilson, of New Richmond.

He is Married.

Prof. U. C. .Taylor, of the Chioago Training School, has accepted the principalship of the Crawfordsville high school and will remove here at once.

THE JOURNAL did Prof. Taylor and the eligible young ladies of Crawfordsville a grave injustice yesterday in announcing in a rank and cold blooded manner that he was a single man. He is not. He is as married as married can b» and has something to show for it in the shape of a wife and two children.

Returned from Oamp.

The Hit and Miss Club returned lost evening from an enjoyable outing at the Pine

HillB.

The time was most pleas

antly passed by all. On the eve of departures ''shadowgraph" entertainment was given in which were depicted all the incidents aDd escapades of the outing. Everything was shown up in its true colors whether it were of a serious, laughable, tragic or amoroue nature. Some of the hits were decidedly palpable.

Waynetown Journalism A coin. Col. John Brant, of Waynetown, has sold the Waynetown Aews to John Small. Mr. Small will change the name of the paper to the Waynetown Dispatch. Col. Brant will retire from the world of letters for a year or so and devote his energy to the cultivation of watermelons.

An Open Letter to Women. Laurel Ave., San Francisco, May 18, 1892.

Dear friend of women: When my baby was born, five years ago, I got up in six days. Far too soon. Result: falling of the womb. Ever since I've been miserable.

I tried everything: doctors, medicines, apparatus but grew worse.

I could hardly stand and walking without support was impossible.

At last I saw an advertisement of Lydia li. Pinkharris Vegetable Compound, and decided to try it. The effect was astonishing. Since I took the first bottle my womb has not troubled me, and, thanks only to you, I am now well. Every suffering woman

0HEES8 10R OEAWi'ORDSVlLLE. The Heroes of the Republic Soreain for Old Glory and The Hoosier Athens. "Hurrah boyel We're right in Indianapolis!" yelled a grizzly old veteran from the west yesterday afternoon as the big train shot through the campus and the gorgeous display of Franklin street burst upon the view. "This is Crawfordsville," called the oonductor who was standing by, "and Indianapolis is forty miles away. "Crawfordsville is it? Well, she's loyal she is! Three cheers for Crawfordsville!-'

And the whole train,of twenty odd cars roared with patriotic zeal for the patriotio display of a patriotic town—a town whose name is written high on fame's immortal scroll. Crawfordsville has a page all to herself in the annals of the world's greatest and most decisive war and in the time of peace she preserves the dignity of her name and the dignity of her illustrious sons living and dead. The old veterans who passed through from the west all yesterday and to day have attested their appreciation for our compliment to them by cheers which could be heard for a mile in the oountry. The boys crowded to the windows and platforms and fairly screamed with frenzied delight as lhe:r trains passed through the arena of floating Hags and the

in6igniB

of a na

tion's glory, which they sustained in a time that tried men's sonls. At the I'lum street station last evening, a big six footer, wearing the badge of the Iowa delegation stuck his body nearly half length out of the car window and with eyes bulging with enthusiastic excitement, shouted: "I'll bet a hundred dollars to a five oant doughnut that this town gives 500 republican majority."

Then the whole train load cheered and cheered again.

A Orawfordsville Boy to the Front. It always causes the cool bracing chills of joy to rustle up and down our backbone to record the success of a Crawfordsville product in foreign fields. Crawfordsville boys always come to the front in the batMe with the world and on "the field of the cloth of gold" they stand to do winning battle against all comers. They have acqnired distinction and creditable renown on all the walks and avenues of busy life. The learned professions are honored by them, the seat of the statesman, the shop of the artison. They always do us proud.

Some weeks ago bright faced Willie Abney was taken over to Danville, Ind., by a rude sheriff to answer to the gratifying and acceptable charge of arson. Willie's worth was not known at tho time and so he was cast into jail to repine and await the opening of court. He did not give himself up to vain re grets, however, but moyed about among his unfortunate fellows like an angel of light. Oft in the stilly night 'ere slumber's^chains bad bound him bis sweet tenor voice could be heard gently warb ling la the prison cell 1 sit. Thinking, mother dear, of you,

And our bright and happy home eo far sw'ar: And the tears, they All my eyes, Spite of all that I can do,

I'lio' 1 try to cheer my comrades and be gay.

Willie proved a blessing to his com panions and Sunday night he devised a pleasant little entertainment for their amusement. He got hold of some steel saws and just for fun he cut all the bars out of one window. The whole crowd then crawled through end left for the blue hills, far, far away. They haven't come back yet. Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Winsome Willie, fare thee well.

A11 Atroeal to Our Citizens. The President of Wabash College be low makes an appeal to the citizens of Crawfordsville which surely should meet with many ready responses. As Dr. Burroughs says the needy students are as a rule the best ones and those who work their way through college always make useful citizens. Consequently they deserve every possible encourage ment from those in a position to assist them. To the Clll/.eca of Cruwlordsvlllc:

The prospects for new students in the college were in the early summer most Hattering. Owing, however, to the present financial depression, many young men who expocted to attend will be prevented, unless they can in some way, by their own exertions, diminish their expenses. Are there not some who will be ready, tinder theee circumstances, to offer room, or board, or both, to some of these, in return for some service which they can render? And are there not others who will endeavor to find something which these young men can do, for which they may receive some financial return? Theee needy students are, in general, our best ones they are those whom we wish in the college. Can I not confidently appeal to the many friends of Wabash in this community to aid me in endeavoring to provide for these worthy young men? Please addrees communications directly to me.

Yours Sincerely, G. S. BUKKOCOHH.

Accommodations at Last.

The Big Four at last realized the situation and this morning for the first time all the people were able to get to Indianapolis. There were tiiree special trains before nine o'clock this morning in addition to the regular. The lunch counter near the Big Four station did a land office business yesterday. Hundred of sandwiches were sold and still there were cries for more as the trains pulled out. On several of the coaches there was no water and several boys made small fortunes selling water at two cups for a nickle.
