TTfl fx Why is Strictly Pure YY White Lead the best paint Because it will outlast all other paints, rive a handsomer finish, better protection to the wood, and the first cost will be less.

If Barytes and other adulterants of white lead are "jast as Kood" as Strictly Pure White Lead, why are all the adulterated white leads always branded Pure, or

Strictly Pure White Lead?"

This Barytes is a heavy white powder (ground stone), having the appearance oi white lead, worthless as a paint, costing only about a cent a pound, and is only used to cheapen the mixture. What shoddy is to cloth, Barytes is to paint. Be careful to use only old ana standard brands of white lead. "Armstrong & McKelvy" "Beymer-Bauman" "Eckstein" "Fahnestock" "Anchor" "Kentucky" "Morley" "Southern" "Shipman" "Red Seal" "Collier" "Davis-Chambers" are strictly pure, "Old Dutch" process brands, established by a lifetime of use.

For colors use National Lead Co.'s Pure White Lead Tinting Colors with Strictly Pure White Lead.

For sale by the most reliable dealers In paints everywhere. If you are going to paint, It will pay you to send to us for a book containing information that may save you many a dollar: it will QDly cost you a postal card to do so.

DB. GEE'S EXPLANATION.

Why He Voted

the Negative on One

Speoifioation in the Switzer Investigation. SOUTH BEJTD, May 26, 1893.—Editor Timea:—In lookiug over your excellent report of the Switzer-Chamberlin investigation it appears to me that there is a possibility of some non professional persons misunderstanding the position of Dr. Bussett and myself, without a little farther explanation, inasmuch as the entire charge and specifications are not set out in the report. The second specification charged that Switzer lied in denying that he had brought suit against the administrator of the Roudebush estate. When asked if that specification was sustained by the evidence the committee unanimously voted, "no." At this point the explanation "In that he did not intend to bring suit," etc., was moved. It was to the adoption of this item that Dr. Bassett and the writer recorded their dissent for the reason that we both believed fully that the evidence had not only failed to sustain the speoifioation, but that the documentary and other evidence presented by the defense dearly proved that Switzer never did bring, nor prosecute suit againBt the said administrator within the legitimate meaning of the terms. We were in favor of answering the question as to whether the specification was sustained, with an emphatic negative, and without any qualifying words by whioh could be inferred even that there was shadow of doubt on our minds, or the least ground to apolo gize for the defendant. We could not say that he had not brought suit because he did not intend it. We preferred to say that aB we fully believed he had not brought suit at all, intentionally or unintentionally. Yours,

A. A. GEE.

The fall of Hanging Book.

"Hanging Rock," nt Pine Hills, hangs no longer. On lest Friday afternoon a loud roar and crash was heard at the Bluff mills far below and investigation proved that the great rock with all its crown of. trees and foliage had toppled into the creek leaving only a narrow channel for boats. The fall makee the place look desolate, indeed, and robs the beautiful stream of one of ita moot picturesque and romantic attractions. The famous rock which hung far out over the little river was known to thousands and many well known artists had elected to paint the view. Only those familiar with the rock as it stood can appreciate the defacement made by its fall. All the rock which projeetid over the stream fell and a straight bare bluff now rises from the debris at its foot.

Curiosities of the Bible.

The Bible contains 3,566,480 letters, 773,746 words, 31,173 verses, 1,189 chapters, and 66 books. The word "and" occurs 46,277 times the word "Lord" 1,855 times and "reverend" once, in the 9th verse, 111th Psalm. The middle verse is' the 8th verse, 118th Psalm, and the 21st verse of the 7th chapter of fezra contains all the letters of the alphabet, except the letter j. The longest verse is the 9th verse of. the 8th chapter of Esther, and the shortest is the 35th verse of the 11th chapter of St. John.

Medical 'testimony.

W. Thornton Parker. M. D., Recorder, Association of Acting Assistant Surgeons of the I' S. Army, writes:

SALEM, Mass., March 23, 1801.—When at Stuttffart. Germany, during the winter ol 1SS1-S2, I was suffering from a severe attack of bronchitis, which seemed to threaten pneumonia. I met, at the Hotel Manjuardt, Commander Beardslec, of the United States Navy. In speaking of my sickness he remarkod: 'Doctor, you can cure that chest trouble of yours by using an Allcock's Porous Plaster.' 'That may be true,' I answered, 'but where can 1 get the piaster!' 'Anywhere in the civilized world, and surely here in Stuttgart. Whenever I have a cold, I always use one and And relief.' I sent to tho drug store for the plaster, and it did all that m.v friend had promised. Ever since then I have used it whenever suffering from a cold, and I have many times proscribed it for patients. '•The Allcock's Plaster is the best to be had, and has saved many from severe illness, and undoubtedly, if used promptly, will save many valuable lives. Whenever one has a severe cold they should put on an Allcock's Plaster as soon as possible. It should bo placed across the chest, tho upper margin Just below the neck some hot beef tea, or milk, will aid In the treat ment. "This is not a oatent remedy in the objectionable sense of that term, but a stand ard preparation of value. Tho Government supplies for the U. S Army and Indian Hospital Stores contain Allcock's Plasters, and tho medical profession throughout tho world are well aware of their reliability and excellence. I shall always recommond it, not only to break up colds, but as useful in allaying pains in the chest and in the back. It is a preparation worthy of general eonllderice."

The National flower.

President John M. Coulter, late of Indiana University, contributes to the June vlrena a brief letter advocating the maize for the National flower. Dr, Coulter reaches his decision from botanical and not artistic reasons, the maize beiog the most useful of native plants, but it is also very beautiful plant.
