Indiana Natural and Illuminating Gas Company—Orawfordivilis, Lebanon and rankifort Concerned.

The Indiana Natural and Illuminatiug Gas Company, of Indianapolis, with capital btocfc $1,000,000, filed articles ot inoorptfftiion with the Secretary of Stat* y«iC»rSay. The objects of the oompany, aa stated in the articles of association, are to prospect and bore for natural gas and to produce artificial gas and electricity for light, heat and power. The incorporators and directors are C. F. Dieterieh, E. J. Jensmanowski, J. H. Benedict, A. W. Brady, Samuel Thome, A. B. Proal and John R. Pearson. The incorporators are the present owners of the Indianapolia Gas Oompany and the Indianapolis Natural Gas Oompany. With the exception ot Mr. Pearson they reside in New York. The incorporation of the new oompany is another step in the movement toward a consolidation of the artificial and natural gas companies of Indiana, whioh begun several months ago. By this incorporation ||the Crawfordsville Natural Gas Company, the Lebanon Natural and Artificial Gas Company and the Frankfort Natural Gas Company all become one concern and the property of the men who own and operate the Indianapolis Natural Gas Company and the Indianapolis Artificial Gai Company. The now company will not have any connection with either of the Indianapolis companies and will-not do business at Indianapolis, but will operate in the three cities of Crawfordsville, 'Frankfort and Lebanon, and in thSsS alone, so they say. It looks like a gigantic combine to control all the Indiana gas'plants and ultimately to shake off all competition.

To-morrow's Eolipse.

Just now the interest of astronomers is very muoh taken up with the total eclipse ot the sun, which is to occur on to-morrow.

The shadow which, like a long black tail, extends nearly 250,000 miles behind the moon, will then brush its tip ucross the feoe of mother earth, first touching the Pacific ooean off the coast of Chili, traversing the whole width ot South America, oroesing the Atlantic and finally leaving the globe in the middle of the "Dark Continent." Wherever it touches there will be a circle of darkness, varying in width from 30 to 120 miles, and it will move with a speed exoeeding that of a cannon ball, occupying frbm three minutes to four and three.quarter hours in passing over any spot that is upon the center of its track. The fortunate observer so situated will, if the weather is fine, witness the wonders of a total elipse.

The finest sight of this great eclipse will be aooorded from the middle of the mighty Atlantic.

It Means More Pay.

The postmaster general has issued an order directing -postmasters at free delivery offioee to adjust the claims of letter carriers for extra pay for services in excess of eight hours, in accordance with the recent decision ot the United States Supreme court, holding that extra pay must be given for more than eight bouts' work performed in any single =day. This will be welcome news to the Oriawfordsvilie mail carriers, who have had io work cine and ten hours a day ever sinoe the delivery system was inaugurated. The oarriers have always stonily maintained that pay was due them for overtime and accordingly filed their claims.

Wedded at Smartsburg.

On Sunda^' evenlngi April 9, 1893, Miss Florence'' Welch and Joel West w6rci tinited in marriage at the home of 'iEhfl' brfde in Smartsburg, by Rev. T. J. Shueyr Quite a number of friends were present and after witnessing the impressive! services repaired to

room wlrtre the daintiest of refreshments werfl served in a most becoming manner.1 The presents were both numerous and beautiful. Mr. and Mrs. West will remove immediately to their beautifnl farm home a few miles northeast of this city.

A Bad flace.

There is much complaint among the residents of south Mill street concerning the Baloon dive kept by Charley Hays. It is alleged that rows are constant there and that loud, profane and vulgar talk is constantly indulged in by the wild beasts who frequent the place. Bud women go there Bt night and go away drunk and disorderly. Small children are allowed to "rush the growler" and

a

bad state of affairs generally exists. The police would do well to look into the matter and give the neighborhood a much needed rest

for the Defendant.

The great case of Martha J. Hedge against J. E. Talbot, administrator of the estate of Isabella Durham, ended in tb6 circuit court yesterday. It was a suit on a note for $400 and in a previous trial the plaintiff got judgment but the Supreme Court revised the decision. Oh the trial yesterday the jury found for the defendant. It was ths theory of ths defense that no consideration had been given for the note.

TEE SNOW ST0KM,

It is Followed by a Ireeze But the Fruit is Safe as Yet. The snow storm yesterday afternoon was unique, perhaps, but- was hardly welcome. There has not been such a late heavy snow since 1867, when nearly afoot fell. In 1874 there was a light snow on April 24 followed by a cold snap which froze the ground hard, killing all the fruit and vegetation that was out. The snow yesterday was a good thing in view of the freeze which followed last night. The snow clung to the trees and it was almost daylight before it began to drop, acting ae a warm blanket for the tender buds daring the chilly night. An examination shows the fruit, or a greater portion ot it, to be unharmed. The peaches were the furlherest advanced and consequently in the greatest danger but they are all right. The cherries, plums and grapes are also unharmed. The danger will probably be to-night. The buds will be damp and unprotected and if a heavy freeze or frost occurs they are gone.

Pleasant Party.:'otM

Miss Flora Shultz very charmingly entertained about thirty [of'her young friends last evening at her home on west Main street. The residence was handsomely decorated for the occasion with plants and flowers and delightfut music was provided throughout the evening. The principal amusements were dancing and card playing and all the guests were admirably entertained. The party was a decided success and Miss Flora proved a most acceptable and hospitable hostess.

A Oanard.

The reported death of Mrs. Charles A. Baldwin by a runaway horse in California proves to have been a canard. The family here received the news in some inexplicable way, no one knows how, and all mourned the lady as dead. Walter Britton, however, who was with Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin for some time in California wrote for particulars of the sad occurrence and this morning received a telegram from Mr. Baldwin stating that^they were all alive and well.

A Very Serious Accident.

Thursday afternoon, aa MisB Ida McClure

going out to view the remains

of the Monon wreck ehe slipped through the first cattle-guard, sustaining a broken limb, which proves to be very serious. She was taken to her liome on east Jefferson street, where Dr. Jones dressed her wounds. She is reported as slightly better to-day.

No Ball Game To-day.

The advertised ball game between the team of Wabash College and Rose Polytechnic institute did not ocour this afternoon. The fearful weather of yesterday caused the postponement ot the game, which will be played off later on. Tbe delay was a great disappointment to the Wabash team which entertained strong hopes of winning.

The Clip Has Begun.

1). F. McClure yesterday purchased the first load of wool which has been brought to the city, paying therefore a very fair price all things considered. The1 dip has begun early this yeAr and will be a large one. The raisers will make a rush to get their wool on the market before a decline in price.
