Upon opening the door a horrible spectacle was presented. The body of the old gentlemau was seen hanging cold nud stiff from the high bed poat, the features blackened and distoited by the horrible death bv strangling. He had upon retiring tied his large handkerchief nbout hia neck and the bed post and then slipping off the b?d loft his body dangling in the air.
Mr. Huber was one of the earliest settlers of Sugar Creek towcsliip and w-is widely known as a good citizen His wife died a few years ago nud wa3 rather melaniiboHy at times after th it. No one suspected, however, thai hi would tf.ke his own life. He was about 80 vears of age.

Joseph Mahoy was fined in the police court this morning for giving young Jacob Maxwell an outrageous beating on President Cleveland's high road. It appears that Maxwell accused Mahoy's girl of being prevaricating gossip possessed of numerous unsavory attributes. NEW YORK, March 4.—Five cliildrcn were sufl'ocatod at S a. m. Friday a venv room on the top -floor of 101 Henry street. The names of the victims are: AUman lierusteiii, 11 years old Itebeera liernste-in, 10 years old Dayman liernstein, years old Rachel KernMein, 0 months old Fanny Koseij, T: years old.
The children were aiono in the room at the time, their.parents having left a short time previous to the accident. locking the children m. The cau^e of the tragedy was the upsetting and explosion of a kerosene, stove, which belonged to M.ycr .Membert, who occupied the apartments adjoining those of the llcrnsteins, with his family. The. .Membert woman's dress caught fire, but she heat out the -flames, and with her two children made her escape from the room.

The fire swept out into the hallway and tip to the roof like a flash. There were twelve families in the tenement and all rushed for the fire escapes. The upper portion of the house was soon mass of flame. Just as the blaze had died away and the fire was under control, a wild shriek of a woman came from nmccs the..throngin the street. In a few seconds a half frantic woman came rushing through the crowd to the door of the tenementIt was Mrs. Bernstein, the mother of four of the suffocated children. She lied been out shopping, and the first she learned of the accident was when she turned into Ilenrystreet near her home and saw the flames issuing from the building. She made desperate attempts to dash into the house ana it took two policemen to hold her. The firemen went to Hernstein's apartments as soon as possible and on a bed in a rear room found the our children dead.' The tire liad not touched the room, but the young ones had been suffocated as thoy slept.

The firemen continued their search, and in another room on the same floor found the body of little Fannie Rosen, also suffocated by th'% smoke. She, too. had been left alone in the room while her mother, went to a near-by bakery. The total loss to the -property is small.
